Dear MAYTHEHORSEBEWITHU just automatically backing every horse a jockey rides is well known to lose money over the long term. Similarly each way betting on the tote is generally very poor value, as is automatically each way betting every horse. The maths of each way betting shows you are best backing short priced horses each way with bookmakers (definitely not the tote) in fields of 8 runners. But punters, as a group, being losers do the exact opposite. Back horses at long odds each way in big fields. That's also why all bookies are happy to bet each way in those races but many do not bet each way in fields of 8 to 10 runners.

Well done last Sunday. But I am talking about long term results, not 5, 10, 20 or even 50 bets. I don't really have the time to get into a lengthy debate over this. Let's see what others say. Good luck today.
Mr. Logic.

The Eggsperth 17th November 2002 07:15 PM

Paul Harvey has won the last 5 premierships in Perth and has the incredible strike rate of 25% winners. I love selecting a horse (first) and then see P.Harvey riding it for the first time as was the case with The Right Money last Saturday. But to only back the jockey with no other information will in the long term lead to the poor house!

I think its worthwhile to follow Jockeys and trainers but i really believe that you have to have a priceline... ie paying $8.00 or more on the tote ...the above horses have not been subjected to that yet

noel 18th November 2002 02:52 PM

racing and sports website have useful stats for jockey/trainer combinations...look for the combos that have high strike rates (less than 4)....these sometimes throw up good winners when there has been a jockey change from the last start to the high strike combination and the horse has no apparent form to recommend it....it often means the horse is ready to fire, particularly if it is running on its home track .....

peakester 18th November 2002 06:16 PM

Nevets, Can you please email me - peakester@useoz.com re how you arrived at your jockey/trainer combos at Yarra Glen today. I also follow trainer/jocks & my selections today were R1.6, R2.4/9, R3.5, R5.2/7, R6.2, R7.3. Noel your comment re jockey change is interesting & I'll keep an eye on this. Re Maythehorsebewithu, I'm no expert on betting but I wouldn't think it was wise to just pick a jockey & back all his mounts, you would need to be selective & establish if the horse was a realistic chance. Also look @ races 8-12 runners, prepost odds $9.00 or lower. The other point I would like to make is that jockeys can & do get on a roll at a particular meeting - ie Zac Purton as you've noted, Darren Gauci at Sandown last Saturday, Noel Callow many, many times (one of the best riders in Australia). Having said this, you can look at http://www.skychannel.com.au/premie...remierships.php where the have tables on jock/trainers profit/loss. It is interesting to note that Zac Purton is currently + $6.96 based on $1.00 win bet so you Maybeontosomething.

Cheers!

PS This is a great forum - don't get too bitchy with the tone of your postings
