Anyone have any thoughts about any of the Longer prices horses in the straddie this year ??
I'm a fan of albert the Fat , the 1400m at Ef looks ideal for him and he does seem to have come back well from his setback last prep . (hes at 41's but you can get better) I was keen on Baqaba (100/1) and dont get to discouraged yet about her form, she obviously needs a drier track and will improve many lengths when she gets one. I really wanted to see something early in her prep to be confident though. Deer Valley is interesting. Will have the nice weight and the track and distance will be ideal. Fifteen Carat ?? Walking or Dancing ?? Youthful Jack ?? still some to work to do.. |
Albert the Fat and Fifteen Carat are 2 that interest me alot both are talented horses and the Eagle Farm 1400 will suit them both to a tee

I like Black Piranha. Nice run first up against Hot Danish.
I think the Fat Man might be a length or two behind them but I'll be happy if I'm proved wrong, as he's a favourite of mine. Improvers - Monton and Graceful Anna? Both have the form through Shoot Out, we'll see how it stacks up.... |
Fifteen Carat was the best value at $81 untill the weekend just gone, into $34 now I think so still value there. My other roughie is Illuminates, ran really well in its last two and split some of the horses higher in the market for this at her last run. Could do alot worse at the odds.

Anyone know why Fifteen carat is a runner in the 2020m race at doomben on saturday?? Seems strange going from 1200m to 2020m in what I thought they said was a program set towards a stradbroke.

Still think Albert the Fat a good roughie , heard walking or dancing has had a setback , fifteen carat i doubt will run now.
Agree with HW about Illuminates , race looks to suit but she seems to always leave it to late , the winter stakes looks ideal. Rothesay is interesting,,huge run last start..and i'll be seeing how Mr Unforgettable goes today , |
The fat will shorten today but the run of Ortensia was ominous. Mr unforgettable is just that ,,did ok but won't be good enough..

Didn't think he could do it at WFA. If I trained him, I'd freshen him for a week or so as he seems to run best 1st and 2nd up. |
yea real nice pickup today already on him at the $40 for the straddie also on fifteen carat at $100 e/w which looked good value after todays run i would imagine the derby will be well and truly an after thought was there to fight it out but couldn't finish off.

The fat into 14's (hope you all put something on)
Ortensia into 5's , very short considering she'll be around that mark on the day. Catapulted 21's into 9's but the 1400m is the query (velocitea must be value then). Border rebel is flying and has come in to 9's aswell. Interesting Mr unforgetable has shortened , i thought he was ok yesterday but needed to show more. i'd forget pinwheel in that race aswell. Rothesay is the only other i'm considering and i dont know much about Hay List so i might do some research. The weights come out tomorrow so that will be interesting |
Backed The Fat at $85.00 on B/F then laided him at $40 so have a free bet running on him at $45.00 in the straddy
Think the straddie will be right up his alley so long as they ride him off the pace, he can really peel off some closing sectionals bet wise bet smart |

What about Red Lord? It ran on well a few weeks ago didn't it? Remember Cummings saying it was being set for this. Good enough?

Red Lord has a devastating turn of foot at times. Will need a break neck speed. Would have loved to see Cummings try this with the horse two years ago but can't be written off.
Seems to be a Group 3 horse but Cummings has always had tickets on it for higher honours...... |

Watched Catapulted's win the other day , very nice , looked real strong the last little bit , i had to admit after the goodwood i worried about a strong 1400m but leading around that track and holding off all but the horse with charmed run it was still a huge effort.
barring a miracle i've done my money on baqaba but i'm happy with the odds on The Fat , Rothesay is the only roughie i'm considering , still some work to do though.. |

The Bandits a Straddie winner , suited the track and distance , hes racing as well now as he was back then , this straddie will be stronger but if he draws an alley he isnt hopeless .
Looks as though Rothesay is going the easy kill and a doubtfull runner , shame. its not an easy race to win and they should strike now. |

Whobe is very short , but he did look super in the 10,000,
Ortensia is still in the mix but she does seem a horse that needs so much to go right for her , she'll have to be almost going the carpark route around the big field as this seems the only way she really extends. Albert the fat 53kgs is my biggest hope , he'll need to draw a barrier. Not sure alot of these in the market will even run , they'll have to win this week to get in. the only other runners i'd consider at odds is Mr Baritone and Catapulted. Not sure whats going on with Rothesay but i think i've done my money there.. |
Couldn't be anything but impressed by Love Conquers All in sydney last week but it would be a stretch to make the field and would also be 2nd up in the straddie i doubt they go this way.

I don't think many have done the Qtc / straddie double and i'm not that super keen on anything in the race today.
The only ones i could consider is Mr Baritone ,Catapulted and Ahdashim . the last 2 i query a strong 1400m . I'm still happy enough with The Fat . i'm already behind in the race (baqaba , Rothesay) I've budgeted for 5 bets , so i'm going to have something on Ahdashim 61's and keep one for game day. I'm leaving Mr Baritone alone even though he's going very well , he'll need to much in his favour to be competitive. Catapulted is just not the style of horse that can win a straddie . has been awhile since a leader has won this race.. |

Interesting that Border Rebel is out did it sustain an injury or something not saying i was going to back it or anything but would have thought all being well they would have atleast accepted for the race as they may have been able to sneak into the field.

One issue with Swift Alliance Mav is it hasn't had a run since the 17th April I don't think which is along time between drinks leading into a Stradbroke I would have to think fitness would be an issue, Another issue i would have is the trip never won beyond 1200m only been beyond the trip once before in it's life when beaten 1.5 lengths by Youthful Jack over 1300m.
Couple the distance doubt with an 8 week break leading into the race because of an injury cloud I would have to consider the horse a massive risk really. |
