Sat 8/3
Need the advice of the experts. In recent weeks I have been reading the Steward Reports on WA meetings in order that I may pick a winner at odds - so far not so good. Saturday there are 2 - PURE PENNY race 6 and BLUE NEON race 7. Informed opinion on these two please guys. |
Pure Penny is a definite chance Redcraze. I have rated in first four. Looks to be suited by the 1400m.
Blue Neon is likely to get well back from a wide draw, but I expect will be running on strongly in the straight. Likely to be plenty of speed in the race, which should help. Have rated just outside first 4. _________________ All the best from the West Sandgroper  [ This Message was edited by: Sandgroper on 2003-03-08 10:30 ] |
There is an excellent Pinjarra Cup assembled for tomorrow with mainly big fields the order of the day on a 9 event card.
Redcraze, I’d add to Sandgroper’s comment about Pure Penny saying I’m not sure where she’ll settle from an awkward draw and with a query or two about her I’ll risk her today. Today Ascot rail 6m. R1 – An interesting contest. Selection is 3 BURRINGTON COOMBE, settle forward somewhere and finish off. Last win was a long time ago but over c/d, this race weaker than last week, jock’s been in good form. If odds are good I’ll put something on 4 General Grant, only won 1 race but this is weaker, was given windburn by Instantaneous last start nonetheless had improvement in him, well drawn could race handy-ish. 5 Scenic Cruise a chance, needs speed on. Don’t like Cherry Blossom who might cross and lead, won last 2 easy, has top jock. and fitter, but I’ll risk it. R2 – Several queries in a good speed race, I’ll tip 2 BLEEPAK to improve on it’s first up, bit unlucky effort. From bar 12 rely on in-form Whiting riding it well. Devil’s Dance is also in R6 a 1400m 3yo race, connections unsure? Virelay 1stup a definite query. Don’t like Ginger Gem, might settle outside lead(ers), hope she’s short cause I’ll risk her. R3 – This is the race for 1 TAPDOG. No fancy odds (though 5 Killadeas isn’t far on ratings) but he’s ready to salute in town. Bar 9 tricky, may even race forward without tearaway leaders engaged. 3 Super Tom ran improved run last start , has the Wolfe/Hall combo. R5 – No selection here. Who can run a faster sectional, Instantaneous or Fred Who? They’ll be eye-balling each other at the rear early in this. Open Company debut for exciting Instantaneous. Heart-in-mouth with him. Has good draw today but I guess they’ll ride him the same way. Dare I say it the non-winner Dedicated Miss a chance again today. What to do with Fred Who, up 400m on last start, flopped both runs this dist. as fav. Voltega an on-pacer a chance, Malwalkie is a good horse not ready today but should improve. The toppie well drawn, best dist. Good race. R8 – Careful here. I’ll go 5 MOGUL to race forward and improve from its 1st up good effort. Had 3 weeks off. They’re backing up Essential Terms quickly after last week’s unlucky effort, good draw. The very good Zoometric runs well fresh, has bad draw. Top day to all forumites. |
Little review and betting flucs from yesterday’s Ascot races run on a genuine fast track. Tomorrow hoping the champ can win with margin in hand.
(I see the scratched Malwalkie is entered for a 1800m race on Thursday. She may not be ready 2ndup where main chances would be Fandang & Miss Polygraph, we’ll see after acceptances.) R1 – Flashing finish from Scenic Cruise(13/2 6), was near last at turn. Sandgroper, what do we do with the Star Trekking form of last week? 4th and 5th in that race were B.Coombe and Kalgoorlie, both did nought today in a weaker race. Latest Sovereign(20) ran grand race in front for 2nd. (1.29.52 35.15) R2 – Parnham trained Precious Lady(3 7/2) deserved to break through after 11 sts. Good run by dual acceptor Brazilian led till near post. Bleepak(4 9/2) wide, wilted. (1.4.39 35.05) R3 – In a slowly run event Tapdog(7/4) box seated, shot clear with the 57kg. Super Tom(9/2 4) ran a shocker. (2.20.28 35.36) R4 – Front running speed display from Rose of Thunder(5/2 11/4) winning the Magic Millions. Woodlore(16) 3rd is by Ravaneux, bursting for a 1400m race. (1.4.58 35.33) R5 – Plonk of the day landed on Dedicated Miss(11/4 5/2 3 9/4) with well-timed run from super hoop PHarvey. Speed mappers may have predicted this on-pace dominated event, giving some fancied backmarkers less chance. (1.36.65 34.62) R6 – Dual acceptor Devil’s Dance(4 5 9/2) brought the top Bunbury form to the big smoke when led t/o in fast time. That’s 5 wins last 6 sts. Another promising type by Dauberval is Early Express. King Canute 4th, ready for a 1600m race. (1.22.83 35.47) R7 – Class record win by improving Cool Eyed(6 5) who had run top 3rd last start. She crossed from the wide gate with ease. Gilligan’s Girl only 7th, but a definite improver. (1.3.75 34.32) R8 – Betting drift didn’t matter as the resuming Zoometric(4 7) ‘flooded home’ giving SMiller a winning double, nailing Mogul(7/4 9/4). This probably was career best run, has returned with a bang. Final Prospect(9 12) 3rd settled outside lead in fast run race, held on very well. (1.10.26 35.35) Ripper week to all. I think you may have been overestimating the chances of Kalgoorlie and Burrington Coombe on Saturday red. Kalgoorlie was only beaten 2.75 lengths on Saturday after being slowly away. Start before he was beaten 3.25 lengths behind Star Trekking. So, not that bad a run. Comparable run by Burrington Coombe on Saturday. Beaten 3.5 length over 1500m with 56kg. Start before beaten 3.25 lengths behind Star Trekking, same weight over 1400m, a distance more suitable. As for Zoometric. Was my rating special of the day and in the end won easily, rating below best, so plenty of room for improvement. Nice prediction re Pure Penny red, very disappointing run. Also nice effort Saturday – winners Scenic Cruise, Tapdog, Dedicated Miss and Zoometric all mentioned in your summation. _________________ All the best from the West Sandgroper  [ This Message was edited by: Sandgroper on 2003-03-10 15:41 ] |
red, just perused the stewards report for Saturday. Looks like both Kalgoorlie and Burrington Coombe were a little unlucky, in particular Kalgoorlie

Ok thanks for that Sandgroper, 7/1 specials are dream bets, well done.
I suppose I should create a thread called 'Albany' but in a few words Wed. R2 4 Truck Talk could be exciting. Fast win only run maiden c/d by 7len, 3rd placed 8.5len away has since won(2nd hasn't run yet). No prizes if it wins as it could be short. Joshua's Star for multiples. Till Thursday Ascot. CYCLONE RUBY Race 4 1800m
Seems to be a slow beginner and forever finding trouble. Any thoughts? |
I fancy Glitch on an each way basis in race 5 Ascot Thursday.
He will probably settle back but will be 2kg down on last start while Abu Dhabi one of two obvious chances is up 2kg. Paris Bank with no weight change will also be midfield to back and has a wide draw. Glitch will have 3 1/2kgs weight in his favour. Any thoughts. |
Today Ascot rail 9m.
R3 – I’ll give 5 KONTIKI SIR another chance with PHarvey on top. Warning Tune up to the 58.5kg an ask and Magic Dash thereabouts as well. R4 – Her 2 wins been over shorter distances but last start was a good leader’s effort by 4 MISS POLYGRAPH, her first run over the c/d. Fandang ready for the 1800m and bit unlucky l.s, Blue Nonna fast finishing 2nd over c/d l.s. Redcraze, I think Whiting has preferred Fandang over Cyclone Ruby, though she ran her best race over the c/d 3sts ago, maybe trifectas. R5 – Agree with the three you mentioned General Gym. I’ll tip 2 PARIS BANK to have a better run this time and the 3 weeks off hopefully not a problem. Glitch a chance on that weight turnaround and Abu Dhabi an onpacer to be in front of those two rounding the bend. All three runners are also nominated for a 1800m race Saturday. R7 – Are they trying to give the toppie some confidence by running in this? Big class drop for 1 BEYOND DISPUTE, might even race forward this time, 1500m is ok. Key Flyer wouldn’t shock by improving 2ndup, Beau Pago with PHarvey might lead unchallenged. R8 – 3 main chances for me are 1 End Path, 2 Urastat, 5 Plain Jo. Might just back the two with longest odds, and a couple of roughies as savers. Plain Jo also nominated for a 1200m race Saturday. Till Saturday where we’ll see the 3rd clash between Early Express and Mercury’s Halo, it’s 1-1 now. |
Hi red, think if we add these to your selections might get some value quinellas / exactas
R3 4 – Mr Debernals, 8 – Personal Drum & 10 Spokesman R4 1 – Malwalkie, 3 – Summer Surprise & 13 Twice R5 4 – Ace O’Class, 9 – London Palladium & 10 Mt Barker R7 4 – Polish Raider, 7 – Business Boom & 8 – All Ferrari R8 6 – Joy Of The Dance, 7 – Dancing Tycoon & 11 – Biraka Girl |
Many thanks for your comments Red. With the scratching of Paris Bank I became more confident and collected a nice tidy result.
He wasn't ridden the way I thought he would be and it was heart in the mouth stuff the last 100m. |
Betty Boop, pretty much on target there, well done.
General Gym your only tip Glitch was strong at finish, top stuff collecting. I had a shocker, just Beyond Dispute. Am just rating R2 tomorrow : Fireband, there's two of them isn't there? Which one do we think will turn up? I see Paris Bank is in R5 against a good field. Anyway till then. [ This Message was edited by: red on 2003-03-14 05:59 ] |
Spot on with Glitch GeneralGym - $5.60 win on NSWTAB. $206.90 tri in 3 red, nothing to laugh at, hope you had a slice  Couple of winners and some nice price places to BettyBoop  Race 2 tomorrow red, only 7 starters at this stage but looks to me that all 7 have a winning chance. Maybe Femme can get back into the winning circle? As for the clash between Early Express and Mercury’s Halo, my money will be on Mercury Halo, but a wee bit wary of the eastern states invader Awakening, trained by Tony McEvoy. |
Fancy a couple tomorrow.
Race 2 DREAM OF STORMS the draw a concern but the small field should negate that. dangers Femme and Super Covet. Race 4 SUPERIOR STAR if the race is run to suit and from a handy draw she settles midfield or better then look out. Island Temptress for value. Race 5 VAMPIRE draw a concern but down 2.5kgs while Blinded is up 2kgs. Paris Bank an interesting runner prefering this over Thursday. Comments invited |
Another morning, alive & kickin – isn’t that great
Reiterate my comments yesterday GeneralGym, race 2 at Ascot today looks a wide open affair, so I will be personally backing anything that comes up at decent odds. Agree GeneralGym, Superior Star looks the goods. A wee concern with the “good” draw, might get hemmed in back on the rails. Also wee concern for another Tony McEvoy entry – Anivara. In race 5 GeneralGym, Blinded, Vampire & Paris Bank do look the top hopes. Do note the latter 2 coming off “mid-week” form. Often this form doesn’t hold up on Saturdays. Also taking a quinella in race 6 – Cation & Wandoo Park and having a bit EW in the last on Market Wrap. |
Top of the morning to ya Paddy, hope we collect plenty today.
Today Ascot rail 9m. R2 – Tricky. Femme to lead Dream of Storms. Selection depends if you think Femme can bounce back with the 3.5kg weight advantage over Dream of Storms, who’s a dual acceptor(R8) and an improver 3rd up. The real Fireband might be coiled up on fence set to pounce but “take on trust”. I’ll stay out of this. R3 – Expect Cento to be up there early with Star Trekking & Don’s Record, Mogul might be up there as well. PHarvey to extract the ************** out of 5 MOGUL. Fitter for his 2 runs from longish spell, backing up after good 2nd last week, dist. suits now and could be some value as he has bar 10 and punters might back the very consistent greybeard Orange William. R4 – The 45k Ascot 1000 Guineas for 3yof. Like most I can’t go past 1 SUPERIOR STAR. Paddy, there might be enough breakup in the field for her to have a clear crack at them. Miss Belhus could be looking for the 1800m, Fly Fonteyn didn’t have a good trip last start, won over the c/d prior start. R5 – Tricky race, no tip, some comments…… Not much speed again won’t suit Blinded, overcame it last time. 1800m a query on breeding? Beaucoup Argent may handle the new distance well, just doesn’t jump at me as a winning chance. Old geezer Super Moss’ last win was over c/d in November. Vampire ran well over this distance in Sydney last year, Paris Bank was scratched from Thursday’s race for this, well drawn. Twin Power suffers bad luck in races, 3rd c/d 2sts ago, I guess WHughes has jumped off it for Blinded. (Abu Dhabi ran 3rd Thursday.) R6 – I’ll have another go with 4 TRIBULATIONS, disappointed last start but has won 3 from 3 distance(last year) and this seems a bit weaker than what he’s been up against lately, should settle behind the speed, and the good news is we’ll get odds as PHarvey has stuck with Cation who spreadeagled the field last start over 1000m and the runner up since won on Thursday. A big chance but might be skinny odds, with a question or two to be answered. R7 – 45k Aquanita Stakes, very open, added to the mix is the interstate raider Paddy mentioned, we hope to send back without a collect, the trainer has enough money anyway. Expect 1 The Right Money to improve heaps on its last run. R8 –Dual acceptor Dream of Storms well weighted after the claim, 3rd up today. Cool Eyed ran rivals ragged last week over 1100m running class record, should lead/box seat here. Could be silly tipping a Class 1 runner but 11 TRITRI to overhaul them. From bar 1 has every chance, could settle right behind Cool Eyed, returned well this prep. Top day to all. |
Little review and betting flucs from yesterday’s Ascot races. Track definitely on the slower side of a good rating.
Bookies’ had the upper hand with several double figure odds getting up and no plunges coming off. R2 – Leaders that blow the start normally kills their chances and punters who took the 4/5f odds about Femme probably covered their faces for the rest of the race. Civil List(16 20 16) with blinkers on collared disappointing leader Fireband. R3 – Kim Lisa (8 10) won 2nd up last prep over 1400m and did the same today, with same jock. Mogul was a **************, wide, plugged. Don’s Record was short(7/2 3f), led at good clip, weakened. R4 – Super front running display by Island Temptress(7) and changed gears into overdrive in the straight. Well tipped General Gym, also good call Paddy about the very short Superior Star(5/4 10/9f), was buffeted about finishing well down track. R5 – A novice mentioned Blinded(10/9 6/4f) could have been a distance doubt. Hughes found the gap, burst through. From his last 10 – 5wins,5placings. May need to jump up to Open class as handicapper will now hit where it hurts. Good stuff Paddy, exacta there for you. Beaucoup Argent(3 7/2 3) didn’t run the 1800m. R6 – Consistent Tribulations(3 7/2 4) no match for the exciting Cation(4/5 9/10 4/5f). Bolting all the way giving PHarvey a double. Arrian(9/2 11/2 5) wide t/o. R7 – Thrilling 3-way finish and Fred may have a handy horse with Shirazamatazz(12 14), was helped by leaders taking each other on. Mercury Halo(4 5) has had enough or didn’t run 1600m. Hoof on till The Right Money(7/2 3f). R8 – On settling no surprises with position of runners. Cool Eyed(3 7/2f) went hard in front collared by box-seater TriTri(4 5 4) giving Kersley a double. Blessed Tudor(10 12) gave a fright bringing his excellent Geraldton form to town. Disgraceful Dream of Storms(4 9/2 15/4) well down the track, stewards please. Top week to all. |

Well done all round guys, between us we seemed to have most results covered.
R/2 Dream Of Storms scratched, Femme blew it at the start and PADDY was spot on looking for odds and reaped the rewards. R/4 Superior Star, took on board your comments Paddy and went for the better odds e/w on Island Temptress. Good Result and the General was grinning. R/5 Had a slug at Vampire e/w, was pleased at the price and got out well on the result. R/8 Hadn't rated this one but with Dream Of Storms running here and not earlier had to have a look. He came up poorly rated here, slow on pace and plus 2 1/2kgs on last run. Ended up with a solid e/w on Tritri (thanks Red)(pace high and down 1/2kg) and a result. One for the future as the 2yr old distances get longer is Mica Star. A slashing run in the first and won't be a maiden long. RED/ Stick with Tribulations, coming back 200m from 8 1400m+ runs was left flat footed when the sprint came (35.63). Will be better suited next time. Thanks for your help guys. Many heads offer many opinions. Many Opinions is Teamwork. Teamwork is results. |
Courtesy The West Australian website:
Injury-plagued sprinter Cation pulled up sound winning Saturday's Hutchison Handicap at Ascot and connections will consider starting him in next month's $60,000 Hyperion Stakes. The gelding, whose knee and hoof trouble kept him out of racing for almost a year, is relishing beachwork near his new trainer Graeme Ayres' Falcon stable. Blinded, who completed a winning hat-trick on Saturday, is another Strickland Stakes prospect. Surroundings, who ruptured a leg tendon in Saturday's Ascot 1000 Guineas, has been retired. Stewards will inquire today into interference she received at the 400m post. Mercury Halo, lame after the Aquanita Stakes, is barred from racing until he has a veterinary clearance. Dream Of Storm, who ran 11th in the 1200m handicap, was banned for three weeks. Beaucoup Argent, breathing abnormally after his last over 1800m, will be examined by a veterinarian. Don's Record, sixth over 1400m, is going for a let-up. The unplaced Arrian will be trained harder. |
Nice tipping on the weekend guys. The information given by you all on this thread is invaluable, and whereas once I avoided having larger bets on Perth races due to lack of information here in Qld, now am almost doing the opposite, as we are getting nice odds on Qtab due to that lack of info here (unless you're smart enought to visit this thread).
Thanks for the pointer to Glitch last Thursday, got my mates and I back into the game down at the pub (more importantly it got me cashed up enough to have some side bets, and for some unknown reason I put $5 on a horse called Volalouise, which duly saluted at freakish odds - $112.00 here - the punting gods do smile down at odd times). Also had a fair crack at Beau Pago which almost saluted (at 8-1 here). Your efforts are appreciated. Cheers, Cosmo. |
Yes Cosmo, Valouise was huge overs
Backs up today at Bunbury and not without a good chance. Could be value again. Rustique and Repertoire top two rated in a fairly open field. _________________ All the best from the West Sandgroper  [ This Message was edited by: Sandgroper on 2003-03-18 12:28 ] |
Sandgroper, first chance I've had to visit site for a few days. Yes, Valouise ran at 12-1 and flashed home down the outside, and wasn't far off, ran third. Might keep an eye on it, although I don't think I'll get the 100-1 odds again.
Cheers, Cosmo [ This Message was edited by: Cosmo on 2003-03-20 10:49 ] |
Fancy two at Ascot.
R3 MR DEBERNALS with Bold Endeavor a danger R4 Thought MARKET WRAP would improve on last weeks run Paddy. Thoughts appreciated |
Today Ascot rail True Position, the last time was 8th Feb.(2m 15th Feb) With fresh inside patch, later in the day along the fence might be an advantage.
R1 – Open race. Leaders Secret Eyed,Silentum,Waspish,Lakeside Rhythm. Hope I can back three, they are 5 Secret Eyed, big onpace 2nd to Shirazamataz last start, may need to work a little from bar14. 8 Mystic Glow, sweeper, backing up after flashing 3rd Island Temptress last week. 10 Trinami should be big odds, finished strongly for 3rd at Pinjarra. R2 – Paklani was top shelf wasn’t she? Rose of Thunder has drawn perfectly though there could be some speed from the 1st starters. I’ll tip 2 DIAMOND DASH to appreciate the 1100m and beat Rose of Thunder. Rave has a tricky draw, a risk she may be posted wide for a bit, Pretty Smik a strong finisher last start, throw in multiples. R3 – Was only a midweek race last start and landed a 8/1->9/2 plonk,2 MALWALKIE improved and from bar 4 PHarvey will give her a cushy run. For multiples Bold Endeavour and Mr.Debernals quinelled their last clash. I’ll risk the toppie. R4 – Going to knock Zoometric. Fantastic last-to-first win 1stup but was helped by a torrid pace up front. Though in weaker class today is up to 8.5kg over limit and the edge may be off 2nd up. Is also being set for the WATC Derby late April. 2 MOON TALK has near exact conditions to her win 2sts ago and should go close. Virelay an improver. General Gym, thought Market Wrap be steadied to race near rear then running on. R6 – Could be some speed in this, hoping I’m not diving in one run early but tipping promising 9 GILLIGAN’S GIRL will sit back off them and charge home. Her last win was c/d, Luciani/Whiting combo. Latest Sovereign will find the fence first and get a good run. Ran probably his best race last start 2nd. Jarnot has 8wins from 11 runs and will race on the speed, may be under the odds. R7 – 4 CATION going through the classes and meets some good types today. He bolted in last week and will probably sit off the speed like its win 2 sts ago. Prince of Charms has raced well in Listed class and likes the c/d. Final Prospect in for multiples. Top day to all. [ This Message was edited by: red on 2003-03-22 06:01 ] |
Little review and betting flucs from yesterday’s Ascot races. Track was excellent, fair for all.
R1 – So Long Syd(8 10 8 ) had 1 previous start for a midweek and checkered 6th. By Old Spice and up 100m yesterday finished fast to beat good leader Secret Eyed(9/4 11/4f). A shocker by Mystic Glow(5 11/2). R2 – Rave(5 6) good run, hung on to beat unlucky Diamond Dash(2 9/4 2). Rose of Thunder(1/1 5/4f) caved in quickly, probably was tuned right up for her Magic Millions win(won connections 57k) and ‘bounced’ yesterday, we’ll see. R3 – 2nd winner for PHarvey when sprinted at the right time with Malwalkie(4 9/2 4ef) claiming brave leader Zedamoss(10 14). Mr.Debernals(3 4ef) plugged home 4th, last start winner Bold Endeavour(9/2 11/2) a disgrace. R4 – When the money is on Moon Talk it certainly talks. 2 sts ago it was plunged and won, yesterday was about 5/2->2/1f and shot clear in straight. Excellent 1st up run from Brush the Saint(5 11/2), he won 2ndup last prep over 1400m. Top run Zoometric(7/2 4) for 3rd, must have whizzed a fast last 400m. R5 – This race will have the speed raters frothing at the mouth over brekkie this morning. Faster time and sectional than the 3MW winner in R7 and about 2.5len faster than Rave. Royal Fire(3 7/2 13/4) came home well beating a good Shout from Maroof(6 9 8 ). Remains unbeaten and there were 6 last start winners in this. Yarraman(7/4 9/4f) only 1 len away when looking the winner in straight. R6 – That’s now 9 wins 1 placing 12 starts for Jarnot(7/2 9/2). Began fast settled on speed held out fast finisher Gilligan’s Girl(7/2 4 13/4f) by a nostril. Good run Edition(15) 3rd, wide most of the way. R7 – Keeps getting better Cation(4/5 1/1f). Gave a couple of fair sorts a spanking, can probably race in this class again before handicapper grabs him. Double Jewel(13/2 15/2) 1stup only 6th but was bit wide, an improver. R8 – Cent Dancing(4 5 9/2) came home well giving 4 for the king PHarvey. Scenic Cruise(7/2 15/4f) ran on well for 4th. Top week to all. [ This Message was edited by: red on 2003-03-23 04:37 ] |
You were very unlucky with Diamond Dash on Saturday red, with luck should have saluted. Nice wins by Malwalkie, Moon Talk and Cation and a little unlucky with Gilligan’s Girl.
I was impressed with the winner of the first – So Long Syd. Having only his second start, finished very well for an easy win and looks to be worth following. By Old Spice as indicated red, his mum Belele Daughter wasn’t a bad performer herself during period 1995 / 1997. Nice ride by Jason Brown who would you believe rode Belele Daughter at her only city win. As mentioned, Diamond Dash very unlucky. Moon Talk still improving, Saturday’s run was best to date. Nice win by Royal Fire, River Mist will be improved by his first-up effort. Handicapper might just about have Jarnot. Cation going through a purple patch and is still on an upward spiral. Nice run by Nitronian in the last. _________________ All the best from the West Sandgroper  [ This Message was edited by: Sandgroper on 2003-03-25 15:03 ] |
Some thoughts for tomorrow.
R1, MICA STAR drawn wide but got back last time and rocketed home. Whiting has the ride again. R2, SPIRIT OF JULES down a 1/2 kg and rates on pace. O'hare takes the ride. R3, BOLD ENDEAVOR caught wide last run but is better than that. Knuckey keeps the ride and look for an improved effort. Super Moss and Elvis Rules the dangers. R4 SCENIC CRUISE down a kg on last run and is consistant. a trifecta must at least. R5 ANIVARA an excellant run last time, Brown is up again, drawn 1 and sure to be handy. Tenilla a danger but drawn awkward and Island Temptress plus 3kg with Sansom changing to Tennilla? R6, TRIBULATIONS down 3kg on last run is consistant and deserves a winning turn. Orange William and Star Trekking the dangers. R7, THE RIGHT MONEY also down 3kg, was held up at the straight entrance last time, drawn 1 and has P Harvey. R8, SO LONG SID plus 1kg but is on the up. was hampered and lost a plate last time and still won. Summer Surprise the danger but lacks a draw. Comments appreciated |
Should pack ‘em in at Rosehill to watch Northerly in the Ranvet.
Today Ascot rail True Position. R1 – Going with topweight 1 RIVER MIST to get the run of race then finding a split in straight. Raced in much harder race last week. 2ndup with only a 7 day break, will have to trust top trainer Daly. Several other chances, two of them are 4 Driven to Victory with blinkers on drawn to run a good race, 12 Mica Star also with blinkers on. General Gym, apparently they will attempt to race her handy today. R2 – Tricky. I don’t understand why but I’m tipping 2 FIREBAND to tuck away and come home too well. 1 Tribula only little to lug the 58kg but a definite chance, ran 2nd to Mr.Callahan 1st up over c/d. 5 True Steel needs it longer but can be the blowout runner. R4 – Agree with General Gym, 5 SCENIC CRUISE needs speed on and won’t get a lot here but has a good sprint, may be close enough at the turn in field of 10, bit unlucky last week. 1 Dedicated Miss, scratched from midweek Welter, may race forward and be hard to beat even with the 58kg. 4 Rose of Oakford for multiples. Will risk 2 Kim Lisa. R5 – Natasha was top Oaks/Derby winner. Interesting to see Superior Star race without blinkers. Nearly all runners racing at this distance for first time. No tip but race should answer some questions. R6 – Leaders drawn in and out. Bit of a risk as he’s unplaced at 3 tries c/d so we should get odds about 4 MOGUL. Finally drawn a barrier, PHarvey to drive him home. Being the lone member of the 7 Tribulations fan club has been felt in the pocket. 2nd to Cation last start, hasn’t really finished off but been consistent and looks well in. 2 Lakeside Song won 1stup last prep over the distance flashing home, won a recent trial beating Kentiara. . R7 – The Set Weights conditions ensures the top 2 will be clear cut favorites. Today’s the day for 2 THE RIGHT MONEY. Should in front of 1 Zoometric at the turn and hold him out at the finish. Zoometric ran on hard last week over 1200m. I guess the 600m jump in a week won’t hinder his chances, trainer knows best. Top day to all. |
Little review and betting flucs from yesterday’s Ascot races. Track rated Fast, closer to Good.
The Harveys had 5 winners between them. R1 – Cristobal(12 14) appreciated being ridden off the pace beat Driven to Victory(5/2 3). Winner’s stablemate River Mist(11/4 5/2f) 6th ,less than 2lengths away, had its chance. R2 – Lulugui(4 11/2) got the inside run beat rejuvenated Civil List. Fireband(4 5) got further back than I thought, did little. True Steel(6 13/2) good run outside leader Tribula(7/2 4f) till in straight, next start 1400+. R3 – Only its 4 win in 46 starts though Elvis Rules(7/2 5) has been consistent. Mint Play(9/4 13/4f) didn’t perform up to his last start 3rd in the Bunbury Cup. R4 – 3 week break and carrying 58kg for 1st time didn’t stop Dedicated Miss(11/4 5/2). Scenic Cruise(5/2 11/4) got an inside run for2nd. every chance. Kim Lisa(5/2 9/4f) has won at 1400m and 1800m but the 1600m statistic now reads 4 starts, 0 placings. R5 – Double to ClintHarvey winning a good race for him and connections with Crimson Sakura(12), sweeping run before the turn. They elected not lead to lead on Island Temptress(11/4 9/4f) game 2nd. Superior Star(3 9/2) got shuffled back, won’t sack it yet. R6 – Terrible price winner Mogul(9/4 7/4f). Got back and PHarvey found the run through the field. He’ll want to be back on Cherry Blossom(15/2) next start, she gave Mogul a fright. R7 – Treble to PHarvey as he found the run through drove The Right Money(2 9/4) to the lead and hung on to beat Zoometric(15/8f). Wool Zone will improve on his 11 starts 1 win record. R8 – Scratching of So Long Syd robbed some interest(he may be racing next Thursday). Sulo Warrior recorded his first(and probably last) win on the track. Well done Jason Miller. Local Product(9/2 15/4) might be the one to follow having only the 10 starts, yesterday its first at the distance. Top week to all. |
Thurs 3/2
This could be a big day for P. Harvey |
Saturday 5/4
I like one in the fourth "FOREIGN FOOTSTEPS" but could somebody inform me about S F McGruddy. _________________ "Horses can and will make fools of us" [ This Message was edited by: Redcraze on 2003-04-04 10:47 ] |
Hi Redcraze, I've rated FOREIGN FOOTSTEPS outside my top four, so would be looking for odds of around 10/1 or better. Has had support at both starts, and not beaten far on each occasion. I consider Shaun McGruddy one of the better WA jocks.

Some thoughts for tomorrow.
R2 MICA STAR R5 TRIBULA and EARLY EXPRESS. R6 CENT DANCING and EDITION R8 DREAM OF STORMS, CATION and COOL EYED Your thoughts appreciated. |
Ascot tomorrow - Saturday 5th April.
Don't normally post for Saturdays  so good luck  R1: Gilligans Girl to make up for her unlucky last start defeat. Amphritite, 3rd run back from a spell, hardest to beat. Latest Sovereign & Cherry Blossom next best. R3: Joshie's Show to make it 3 in a row. Lakeside Rhythm should be ready to show a bit of form. Brush The Saint & Megadraw also chances. R4: Shout From Maroof looks the hardest to beat. Diffraction a big danger. Others with a chance include Yarraman & Siesta Bay. R5: Lean slightly to Old Fashion over Tribula. Early Express could be hard to run down. Mr Callahan in fine form. R6: Nitronian will be flying home. Edition hard to beat. Cent Dancing & Key Flyer also chances. R7: Lean slightly to Finito over Blevvo. Dexian also a strong chance. Son Of Vasac another with a chance on best form. R8: Cation the one to beat. Zingarlo & Northern Beau main dangers. Tamoshi a rough hope at odds. |
Main action in Sydney but Ascot has a great program highlighted by 2 Group IIIs then 2 Listed 2yos. Rail True.
About time El Gordo and the best of luck to you and all. Looks to be a few shorties this week. R1 – There could be an early speed battle between Amphritite(blk. off) who needs to lead and TriTri who is fast early. Latest Sovereign may settle behind. A couple of others could go forward, the more the merrier for 5 GILLIGAN’S GIRL who’ll get back and should over power them. Odds not flash though. 7 Cherry Blossom stuck on well behind Mogul last week and PHarvey has been hot(another 3 on Thurs). Latest Sovereign can place. I’ll risk the toppie. R2 – General Gym, I think they want Mica Star to race much more forward with the blinkers on but in this field may be detrimental to its chances. Good luck in an interesting race. R3 – 1 BRUSH THE SAINT will race somewhere forward, won 2ndup over the c/d last prep. 2 Josie’s Show had 3 weeks off and 1400m a query but there looks enough speed for her to finish strongly again. Place chance to 7 Crystal Clear, 1400m a query, forget last start. R5 – 60k GroupIII Hyperion over 1400m. Early leader could be Early Express, probably bring across Tribula. Mr.Callahan and Kames Hope to be up there somewhere. Taking the punt last year’s winner, 1 OLD FASHION, travelled well from Melbourne(often 1st race back from the East they race below par). Will settle back and weave through. I don’t think they’ll allow PHarvey on Early Express to jog in front. 3 Mr.Callahan and 8 Tribula chances. R6 – I have it at 9/2 the field which could be wrong so I’ll stay out. R7 – 60k Group III Strickland over 1800m. Agreed again El Gordo. Tip is last year’s winner(dead heat) 1 FINITO. Like today he was also 2ndup. Returned with a bang at Bunbury and will be fav. here. 3 Dexian has potential to mix it with this company, 2 Blevvo will get a good run onpace. R8 – 3 CATION. Up 2kg but drawn well, will settle just off them and has that ‘ping’ in him. If not Cation there are a heap of chances. Multiples might be the way for some as fav. will be short. Top day to all. Little review and betting flucs from yesterday’s Ascot races.
R1 – Followers of dual acceptors would’ve been on Carry Kali(10 12 10). Strong finish to just beat Cherry Blossom(5/2 7/2) by a nose, now won both runs from a spell. Race not run to suit Gilligan’s Girl(7/4f) but disappointed a little. R2 – Deserved win to Diamond Dash(6/4 7/4f) nailing the real Rose of Thunder(7 8 6) by a nose.Rave(5/2 2 9/4) handy early dropped out. R3 – Crystal Clear(7 8 ) and Expropriate(6) were the two favs. in a recent midweek when involved in a bumping duel and forgetting about the winner. Brush the Saint(6/4 2ef) 3rd had every chance and Josie’s Show(9/4 2ef) a shocker. R4 – Shout from Maroof(2 15/8f) top win sat outside Yarraman(9/2) and beat him off. Harvey may want to stay on Magic Aces(5 13/2) after his fast finishing 5th from a bad draw, and did bolt in a 1200m race in December. R5 – Little Tribula(5 8 ) settled outside leader Early Express(5/2 3 11/4f)and beat him off in straight. Surprise was the lone backmarker Mogul(10 12) charging into 2nd against a good sectional. He’s in form. Old Fashion(3 4) sat behind the leader and disappointed. R6 – Two in a row for Cent Dancing(9/2f) holding out Beyond Dispute(6 7). Sarah’s Spirit(9 10) 3rd, racing out of its class having had the 1 win from 4 starts prior to today is one to follow. R7 – I thought Money is Magic(14 25) was outclassed in this but dead wrong as he flashed home beating every chance Finito(4/5 1/1f). Blevvo(6 7 11/2) led and weakened, hasn’t recaptured his early summer form yet. R8 – Darren Mcaulley said about Cation(4/5 9/10 4/5f) before the turn …”and Cation is breathing fire behind them”. Changed gears, shot clear. An exciting type winning the last 4 in town. Gave PHarvey another double. Bar 1 didn’t seem to suit Prince of Charm (5 6 5), worth looking at next start. Top week to all.
