Value God knows

Playing God, they tell me it was available at 80-1 fixed price, i.e. 20-1 the place, (10-1 for your money) best tote was 1.7-1?????

TheSchmile 11th February 2012 05:39 PM

The answer partypooper in my opinion, is that he was running for a place only.

The win was a foregone conclusion.

Two words: Black Caviar

Not just a champion, she's taking on immortal status.

We are witnessing something unbelievable in our sport.

As much as i lover her she has to go overseas and beat them, we are not like the poms that claim anything that can beat the locals as best of all time.

When you say "WE" you mean "YOU"

I would much rather watch 2 Maidens of equal ability fighting stride for stride to hit the line in a photo finish in the first at Donald than watch these non-events.

I prefer a contest.
But thats just me.

If it was breaking track records that would be different, but it ain't getting close.

TheSchmile 11th February 2012 08:27 PM

Um. OK.

Shaun 11th February 2012 08:34 PM

I bet if it jumped from a box and ate kibble you would saying something different.

Chrome Prince 11th February 2012 09:11 PM

What we saw today, you cannot see every day of the week.
That's what makes it, and her, so special.

Party, according to betchoice, the place percentages for best tote was only 298.5% and paying 3 dividends. Its tough to complain here. The old 1/4 the odds rule is not feasible with an odds on fave in the race, and downright pointless in Black Caviars case, her odds are some of the shortest we will ever see.

Bhagwan 11th February 2012 09:43 PM

The same thing was happening to the price in Phar Lap's day.

Today made it 18 wins in a row.

I was listening to a radio interview where they where saying Phar Lap's last 15 races were at unbackable odds.

TheSchmile 11th February 2012 09:54 PM

Unitab paid $1.20. Best of 3 tote was the way to go.

They did it 2 starts back also, paying $1.10 when I think the price was around $1.04.

Tasty!!

Mark 11th February 2012 09:59 PM

I wish she would race every week. I'm holding unbelievable amounts every time she goes around, and at good %.

TheSchmile 12th February 2012 01:20 AM

Well done Mark!

Just watched the replay a few times to actually soak up the magnificence of the mighty mare. It's basically ridiculous how good she is, no??!!

Moeee,

I did a test of your theory on a 5 horse maiden at Pakenham and somehow I didn't get that same spine tingling feeling.

Weird.

The Schmile

partypooper 12th February 2012 02:01 AM

Yes, gotta admit, that "turn of foot" sends a tingle down yer spine alright, I guess I was talking from my pocket as I backed Playing God for a place BEST TOTE! shouldn't complain I know!

TheSchmile 12th February 2012 06:56 AM

Well hey,

In the end you got a better price for the place on playing God than for backing BC! A little annoying though it may have been! :)

Pull any unlabelled race from the archives and turn the mute on and most races are rather boring.

I know about spine tingling , because I was there the day BoneCrusher beat Our Waverly Star.
Looking back , and I'm wondering whether it was Bill Collins Call that had a lot to do with the chill.

Anyway , if you get excited by races that the result is known a week before it is run , more power to you.

Like I said , I prefer watching a contest - But thats me.

Barny 12th February 2012 11:43 AM

WOW, not too often in our lifetimes do we get to see someting as outstanding as Black Caviar. Greg Norman at his peak (before he mutilated his swing) was the best and most powerful ball striker the world had ever seen, John Coleman from Essendon FC, Bradman, Lillee & Thomson, Thorpie ..... they all pulled crowds to watch something special.

I know nought about the mechanics of a racehorse, but BC fair dinkum 'walked' past them and put 4 lengths on them in the blink of an eye.

Vortech 12th February 2012 12:34 PM

The hot dog eating championships went down to the wire this year! Very close. But when you triple crowd sizes to that of a normal Orr Stakes day of the past years you have a champion race horse preparing itself to take on the best of the world.

Give me that anyday of the week.
Race times are iirelevant when Nolan doesn't move on the horse.
With such an easy run she'll need more races in Oz before heading to England.
Would be nice to how much she would put on Rain Affair

Barny 12th February 2012 12:43 PM

Sad to see champions of the past lose it a little tho'. Although Hawkie skulling a pot at the cricket is way past his PB in skulling a 'yard' at Uni, it is nonetheless a reminder of his past greatness !!!!

Couldn't agree more, and in fact the horse has obviously improved out of sight since last preparation.
She just keeps winning with more ease.

The problem is that Moody has been too good at his job, he has perfectly placed her at every start.
She has really never been tested except when she went clockwise.

Since then nothing has even had a go at her or tested her.
"They" are saying that Hay List is the second best sprinter in the world.
That's a pretty long bow to draw in my opinion.

When she beats the best at their peak, she is a world champion, not when she beats a Caulfield Cup winner over 1000m shorter than his best and a Melbourne Cup winner who's seen better days.

If she crushes Frankel, she will be the best in the world.

norisk 12th February 2012 05:38 PM

When Crome Prince, When - she would make Frankel look silly at this point in time.

I see moeee's point & almost tend to agree somewhat as I have seen alot more thrilling races than the Orr yesterday, but seeing her in the flesh gives you a different perspective & I walked away knowing I almost certainly will never see a better racehorse go around before I turn my toes up.

moeee 12th February 2012 06:39 PM

In twenty years time - nobody will be saying " remember that race Black Caviar won?"

But ask anyone about the Cox Plate Bonecrusher won.
Even a 25 year old I know knows about it from his dad.

anyway GOD KNOWS why , but whoever got excited yesterday , I'm happy for you.

THAT'S MORE LIKE IT MOEEE!!!!!!

Bonecrusher v Our Waverley Star!!!!!

I felt a little disappointed that you originally used a country maiden as an analogy in your earlier post.

She will be tested eventually and we'll hopefully get a ding dong battle to the wire.

That, I look forward to.

I did however watch her race with the sound on and off. It's just beautiful to watch her gallop, her fluency of motion is majestic.

OM SHARNTEE 13th February 2012 02:09 AM

A very interesting article in the Sunday Papers about 'her stride'
here.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/superracing/sectionals-show-why-black-caviar-is-not-your-average-race-horse/story-fn67tt9b-1226268021541

Cheers.

partypooper 13th February 2012 02:38 AM

It does also make you wonder who (which horse will break the spell?) i.e. even the mighty ARKLE (different code I know) eventually met his "Waterloo" even with a broken leg and a defeat of 1/2 length, they reckon that he met with the injury very early on in the race, so the mind boggles! 27 wins from 34 races (from memory) 40 years on and still considered no 1, definitely in my opinion!

TheSchmile 13th February 2012 08:23 AM

Hi partypooper,

It's gotta be internationally I feel, as mentioned earlier, Frankel seems to be the one. He is doing similar things to BC over in the old dart. Smashing the opposition by 5+ lengths and they come out and win a Group 1 next start.

I had a look at Arkle party, what a jumper!! You sentimental Brits probably still tear up at the mere mention of his name! :)

Om Sharntee,

Thanks for posting that article, really good stuff. 3 x sub 11 second sectionals from BC.......WHAT THE???!!!!!!!

The Schmile

rails run 13th February 2012 09:06 AM

No coincidence Soft Sand, who has run equal sectionals to Black Cavier, came out and won a 1200m stakes race by 3 lengths at Caulfield!

TheSchmile 13th February 2012 09:29 AM

Think we have a pretty handy horse in Soft Sand, Rails Run!!

At least if she does go up against Rain Affair you can guarantee there will be pace on from the get go. The last horse to try and go hard early was Hay List, yet she still won comfortably.
Moody was saying he has no idea just what distance is the limit for her.
