...........what great rules a system has that advises punters to take $1.40 in a midweek race over 2800m.

The same system that tells you to back long odds on when a bookmaker is involved!
Seen this way too often, sneaking in under the radar at midweeks.

The above comment was made without even seeing the race as I just got back home. Just took a peek at the replay in case I was being a bit harsh.

Nope, up in the air as the gates fly back, taken at least 6 wide at one point on the turn, beaten a length.
Horse has covered at least twice as much ground as the winner who was tucked away nicely on the rails and waited for an opening.

Another one to put in the suss file.

Yeh watching the race one could have been mistaken for thinking it was a race in Brisbane, as I have lost count of how many 'good things' ive seen miss the start there.

Little sympathy for those that do their dough on $1.40 shots.

Yes , I guess no one said that those things win 100% of the time .

If one is going to take it on , one would have to treat it as if it were a place bet that did not pan out and be betting accordingly.

Not like some of those nutters like The Fireman AKA Eddie Birchley, who spat the dummy after blowing approx 100K on one horse race & reckoned all racing was rigged to get at him.
That was a funny moment in racing history.

Maybe he flew into a flying rage when someone tapped on the shoulder & said.....

i think he may have been on right track as far as out to get him.
At one particular meeting once he had backed his selection, and it was too late for the money men to get a message to the jock, there was a bomb scare, so the start was held up, word got to the jock and of course the conveyance was beaten.

Have no fear, here were a few jocks and a certain bookmaker/ bookmakers who were not adverse to getting the odd one beat.
If you think any different you are deluding yourself.

It's not about the horse getting beaten, it's about the way it got beaten and why it got beaten.
That's why I watched the replay, if the horse got beaten on it's merits, then that's just another statisic where punters got it wrong.
But the horse was up in the air when the gates flew back.
O.K. it happens, but subsequent actions made it entirely suspect.
To lose by a length after going up in the air, being taken 6 wide on a turn for no good reason, and travelling further than any other horse in the race, rings bells, sends red lights flashing, and an electric shock to boot.

Why would any jockey make his move so that he was travelling the widest on the camber of a turn leaving plenty of gap between himself and the next horse inside after blowing the start?

There was plenty of inside room to weave through the field.
The winner was on the rail behind the leader.

Maybe it was just a poor ride, but Berry gets mentioned too often in Stewards reports and loses too many when on a Waterhouse hot pot midweek.
I'm sure if he were not up to it, he would be replaced, but instead we have farcical rides like this.
That is clearly not the case, as he has ridden perfectly when there is big prizemoney and higher pressure.

I watch almost all Australian races in any given week & regularily see rides that warrant explanation, but rarely hear any more about it.

I dont mind too much getting potted when the jockey has done his best, but my dogs know from experience to clear the room when I let rip with
"(insert jockey name here) you ******** mo.ngrel!!"

I don't usually bet on early races during the week, (it was R3 for those that don't know) but am always on the lookout for shorties to get rolled. When I saw the connections, I thought I'd have a go. I don't know where the Stewards were looking during this race and I'm surprised it hasn't got a mention (yet) on the Just Racing website.

Maybe I was a bit harsh under the circumstances of a Bomb scare you have noted.

Those Bookies a cunning little chaps.
Maybe in that instance , they were out to get him.
And the Stewards said nothing.
Maybe they where in on the Joke.
