ok, alright, you all probably think I am some sort of weirdo by now.....but I want to know, how many of you guys place bets through a tab account, computer, go directly to the tab, go to the pub have a few & put your bets on, put your bets on then go home and watch them, or even better still - go directly to the races?????
I am interested to know. So if you dont mind sharing??????? I gotta tell you, I am not into the computer betting, tab accounts, but enjoy the rest( or should I say take full advantage), however I find the computer handy for looking up the latest odds. So what about you guys? |
Howdy Mystic.
i normally go to the TAB and put the bets on and go home and watch them on SKY. On saturdays I have a couple while I am down there (a couple can be 1-10, depending on the company). I use my phone account when I am not sure of the odds my horse will be so i wait until close to the race before i bet. I have recently signed up to IAS to bet with and will look at the morning markets on the internet, maybe bet top fluctuation or wait until later and bet Diviplus. I am from the country so I only get to a few metro meetings a year, the Caulfield Cup being my favourite. [ This Message was edited by: Release the Hounds on 2003-09-24 21:10 ] |

Mystic, I don't know about the weido thing, can't comment there, but I do all of the above, and more! I bet on long range doubles, that, in the reality of racing have not a high hope in Haiti's of winning... Then again, I know my day will come, and it will be payday for me... The thought of inflicting severe wounds on those Fleas attracts me greatly. So I plod on. You see, while I would like to think I am serious about the horses in a business sense, sadly, many would think I just through good money after bad... But for me, racing is a great entertaining thrill, a real special part of my life. To me, I would feel incomplete if for not this challenge. It's the complex array of factors that make it near impossible to actually achieve a satisfactory return, that holds the key, the secret that very few actually know, and that is how to make money from this game. I though, are content with paying a reasonable fee for this entertainment, while in pursuit of the big payday. It may be difficult for some to take, but I actually have just as much fun watching all my cups doubles selections run in lead up races than the cups themselves. Seeing the bookies dial in my 10,000/1 combos to 500/1 makes me think I'm actually getting somewhere in my winding road to success. Yet, there are the disappointments of selections breaking down, or connections changing plans, but hey, that's racing. I can't tell you how I felt when Kayf Tara was scratched on the morning of the Melbourne Cup. For me, it was as if I'd lost 20K... And the night before, I was thinking of how I would spend the cash, and how painful it would be for the Fleas, but they only grined, and Central Park, and Zazabelle came 2nd and 3rd DH.... Painfull yes, funny game this racing, yes, but I love it, and have a great time with it... Cheers

Hi Mystic,
I think you know my answer to this. GO TO THE TRACK. One thing though I NEVER drink alcohol there.I wait till I get home and either celebrate or drown my sorrows, get half tanked and have a ball on this forum. cheers |
YEAH KENCHAR.NOTHING LIKE THE ATMOSPHERE OF THE TRACK IS THERE.
|
My 2c worth, there is no doubt , there is nothing like the atmosphere of the track, BUT I have to be practical, I RARELY WIN AT THE TRACK, so guess I am doing something radically wrong. But I have come to terms with my weaknesses, and have it under control, one thing I like to do at the track is watch for those incredible overs on the tote win OR place ,you see the bookies offering 20-1, and see the same at 50-1 + on the tote I seem to do ok there!
|
Tab Account???
IAS or Sportingbet only. By Internet Only. Never bet at the track or pub - puts that dangerous thing called emotion into the equation which always (in my case) leads to bad decisions. |
i always go to my beach house and watch sky and use phone account.
take it easy. |
O.K. I'm hopeless when tanked - bad decisions and without a care in the world, worse still I throw around any cash I have like Rene Rivkin.
I agree with the guys about the atmosphere of the track - it's a fantastic day out. I also love going to the small provincial meets (not to bet) but just to enjoy a day out. If I bet I don't drink - ever! Except at the end of the day  If I go to the track all my bets are placed prior to leaving home. That way I'm not tempted, don't get caught up in the auction style hype of the betting ring, can get tanked (as my bets are already on) and don't have to struggle with the formguide and racebook between races. Finally, I can turn my attention to the ladies between races  |
i am a 1 in 3 man. that is once in three weeks or so i will go to the track, once in three weeks i will go to the pub and have one or a dozen and once in three weeks i will go to the tab.
I love the track, it is awesome. I find if i go to the track i will go for about 10 weeks in a row then have a break. Drinking doesn't effect me too much on the punt because i handle it pretty well and usually have done the form and back my selections anyway. i find the track more detrimental to my punting as there is so many things going on, i.e the ring, the parade, beers, girls, more beers, more punting etc etc. great day ay the races though. cheers lads |
Hi Guys and Gals
Gees I love to read this forum, always difference of opinion and interesting. I gotta say I love some coldies and relaxing watching my bets wheather in the comfort of home or the local. And all your replies where just awesome, they involved a bit of everything and anything...so good to see that there really is passion involved! That really made me soooo happy! Topsy99 is it safe for me to say that you are a female, cause guys I am - its just that your senario of the beachhouse and phone tab sounded sooooo good! If that makes any sense and no no no umrum Im not into going to the tracks and checking out the girls!!!! |
Hi Guys & Gals,
Just a bit more input of me at the track, which I know a lot of you wont agree with. 1/ I only go to make money not enjoyment. 2/ I never drink there (coffee only) 3/ I never watch a race live (monitor only ) 4/ I never go with anyone (cant concentrate) 5/ I admit I have an occasional perv (hard not to) 6/ When I have made my target for the day I have one more bet if it gets a result I have another etc until a losing bet than go home.My best result is 5 in row usually 1 or none. 7/ I NEVER listen to anyone there. 8/ I form my own opinions and bet to those (nothing else) Now some interesting points. 1/Do I do it the right way 2/Am I a stick in the mud 3/Am I a snob 4/Do I do the right thing knocking off when I have my wages 5/Is there anything wrong in having a perv(Oh by the way on girls only) Some feedback would be interesting. Might even be a laugh or two. Dont worry what you post I have a thick skin,as long as its not overboard cause Ill give ya plenty back. Cheers |
Mystic im a big big fan of going to the track. But unlike a few other forumites here I love a drink while I am there! There is no better day than a winning day at the races with your mates and having your day and night paid for with your winnings. Rosehill is by far my favourite track. You will see me there every meeting in the public betting area, to the right of the main screen yelling out louder and louder as the day wears on. I've met a lot of great people at the track and Rydges afterwards, rugby league players are always at Rosehill, especially the Parramatta players like Nathan Cayless and Michael Vella, they love it. Best time I had out there was a few months back when I saw the Daily Telegraph tipser Ray Thomas all dressed up looking very schmick, but not too happy (must have been having a rough day). I think it was Race 5 by this stage and I was a little tipsy so I started giving him a bit of stick that none of his tips had come in yet. I then asked him do you want a free tip in the next at Sydney, to which he very abruptly replied NO. Well my tip was Laguna Lake which somehow won paying $30 odd dollars. After the race when no one was cheering I went back up to Ray Thomas with my winning ticket and said "Don't quit your day job big fella". You can only have this much fun at the track!
Good Punting ShoeIn |

in reply to mystic.
no not female. my username is named after my border collie. was having trouble remembering passwords so named myself after her. i used to live at randwick and moved to southern tasmania years ago and built a new house on the huon river. this time of year best spend time inside as fairly (very) wet down here at the moment. used to go to randwick a lot but never had any money those days. had to come down here to make a living. going through a land boom at present so things finally looking up. following the races helps keep in touch around australia so does forums like this. so please put up with us poor relations and keep up the good humour and goodwill. |
Hey Topsy99,
Thats is quite bizarre,,,,not letting on to much, but I live in Randwick. Although one day I dream to be living at my dream beachhouse soaking it all up and realaxing.... I do get to get out to Randwick here and there, but much prefer my own comfort zone. The whole atmosphere is great....But the beers at home are much cheaper!!! HI Kencha,
It is great to be opened minded, here is some of my thoughts to some of your thought??!!.....!. I never go with anyone to play the pokies cause I cant concentrate,,,and I dont like going and putting my bets on with anyone because I want to trust my own instincts rather than listening to someone elses or have htem copy mine....as lame as it may sound, but I find that I get entangled in a web of confusion and end up spending more than I planned on Yeah yeah,,,, well thats typical isnt it...dont all you guys have a perve!!!! another reason why carnival time suks!!!! I think you are smart, knock off when your up, well then of course, its more to your advantage for later. 4. Hey we only live once, so why not live it up and live it the way we want!!! |
Kenchar, I don't think there is any problems with your approach. It's obvious that you are serious about the business, and at the end of the day, if your investments has been profitable, who cares what others may think. After reading a lot of your posts, it seems you are very astute, and we could all learn some valuable insights. By the same token, not ever seeing a race live does seem a little harsh, and spending the day on your ace is not my go. I prefer to hear the thunder of the hooves, and debate about different conformations, and tactics with a buddy that has a similar passion. But then again, while both you and I don't mind checking out the Fillys, only I will leave the track with empty pockets, and stinking of horses!

well if all the women wore adidas tracksuits i dont think too many blokes would be looking. dont tell me you've never checked a guy out mystic. anyway anyway on to kenchar u sound a lot like my old man except the winning part so i dont think u are a stick in the mud because growing up i knew my role. better going home a winner than a loser |
Let me tell you umrum, I certainly do not wear adidas trackies.
As for checking out guys, well I would be a lyer f I said no - dont get me wrong, appearance does count, but it is what is on the inside which counts most of all. And I suppose it helps a whole lot more if they have some good tips!!!!!just joking [ This Message was edited by: mystic on 2003-09-26 12:13 ] |
