Thanks Paddy. Not one of my better days, but that's racing.
For today like the following, good luck. RACE 5 AIKO & GUARDED ANSWER RACE 6 DOLLY ZIUTO & CLASSY CHARMER RACE 7 FEEL THE PULSE & STOCKIE'S YARN RACE 8 HE FOR HIDEY & PRECIOUS RESOURCE RACE 9 LORD SPICE & SHOOTERS ALL ROUND |
Hi Paddy
On his best form Stockie’s Yarn would almost be a special in the cup. Stephen Miller, who I believe is an underrated jock, has previously ridden him only once – for 1 win. However Stockie’s Yarn recent two starts following a spell, have been well below his “normal” first/second-up previous performances, so if he is not on his mettle, others like Grand Cavalier, Aussie Strike, Feel The Pulse and perhaps Air Of Supremacy, could greet the judge  _________________ All the best from the West Sandgroper  [ This Message was edited by: Sandgroper on 2003-11-09 13:32 ] |
what a disgrace that we are still racing at belmont. The turf club in their infinite wisdom have taken most of the monitors away to ascot and the tables and chairs. Fair dinkum how is this committee still in office.
They are a disgrace. All they worry about is the breeding side of it not the punters and trainers and owners. If the railway stakes is at belmont they should resign in embarrassment. |
I must say I’m still amazed that they got themselves into this pickle. Same schedule every year, same weather factors, etc………unbelievable!.
Latest news, we will be racing at Belmont up to & including Wed 26th November, Ascot on the 29th (Railway Stakes) and the 6th December. Back to Belmont (midweek) 10th Dec. Then back to Ascot for remainder of their season. _________________ All the best from the West Sandgroper  [ This Message was edited by: Sandgroper on 2003-11-11 15:43 ] |
Seems the repaired track is unlikely to be ready for November 29, according to the latest press release.
The Ascot track will be inspected on November 18, following this an announcment will be made as to when racing will return to Ascot. The return to Ascot could more probaly be for the big Perth Cup meeting on January 1. |

Magic Aces (6) - well drawn & should be well ridden. Ready to show best following 2 starts from a spell.
Laetare (1) - agree Sandgroper, a good chance. Slight doubt over the distance from a wide draw. Cat In A Hat (7) - improved effort with the addition of blinkers added last start. Should be a nice price. Detail (13) - blinkers added. Looks the best chance from the ladies. |
How about your thoughts on the Group II Lee Steere Stakes as well, if you don't mind lads

Expect Finito (2) to run a great race fresh.
Top run by Old Fashion (1) last start, suited at WFA. Hardrada (3) back to form with a vengeance. Tribula (13) on her day, very smart. |

I like the look of Finito in this race fresh have followed both he and Modem in the past and Modem was a bit disappointing for me last start.
This is I think nearly the best race of the day anywhere when will they get some respect for there racing in the west always has good sized fields unlike sydney who far to often send out fields of 5-7 runners. |
have said so for years.
out of the 5 capital cities if i had to drop one off my racing it would be sydney. it is an embarassment these day. also of the west have followed for several years. had a good result on the grey cardinal yesterday. last gasp for the day. wa racing is good. nsw racing is a problem but we have been there before havent we. |
Well I am origonaly from Sydney and would to to agree on that....the racing there is rubish...even there carnivals or off.....isn't it funny when Sydney has it carnivals that Melbourne can put on a good show and have good races....but when Melbourne have thier carnival Sydney just gives up....i will have to say and i am not sure if it is the capabilities of the handicapper but Sydney has a lot more winners and places comeing from the top numbers Melbourne can have them from anywhere Adelaide aswell....this makes me believe that the handicapper does a better job in Sydney....or maybe the form is easier to read...not sure on that...what are your views on this subject
|
or the quality in each race tails off very quickly.
20 years ago sydney used to be flavour of the month but over recent years dominance of large stables seems to have taken the oomph out of sydney racing. in the recent carnival in melbourne out of 27 races i think sydney won 5 of the majors i assume john hawkes won those. it would be interesting to see the percentages on the trainers e.g. the numbers trained by hawkes, waterhouse, connors, denham etc just to see the make up of sydney racing. then that might show us a picture of what we are talking about. certainly very unexciting lately but. did manage a couple of winners there yesterday so should be greatful for small mercies. |
I think more than anything in Sydney the problem is the dominance of Waterhouse and Hawkes. I don't know if it so much scares people away from the place but I think they would rather go either to a county meeting or to Melbourne or Brisbane than to go into a race which is made up of 50% Hawkes and Waterhouse.
I myself find iut hard to sit there and try and work the form out for a race when one trainer has 4 runners in it all with a very good chance of winning it you usually find that there is one of those horses there to set it up for one of there others. Plus I guess I have alot against Gai cannot stand the woman and am happy pretty much every year come melbourne carnival time cause she rarely comes away with anything which really makes you wonder what goes on in Sydney where she dominates. |
The $300,000 WFA Fruit 'N' Veg Stakes to be run on December 13, will now be over 2000m at Belmont instead of the traditional 1800m at Ascot.
Racing officials, owners and trainers, who met yesterday, agreed they would change the distance because there was not a safe 1800m starting point at Belmont. |

Sir Bollinger looks a great EW bet. This lightly raced 5YO, trained by Tony McEvoy, seems well weighted, well drawn & doesn't mind the 1600M.
Modem with the services of Paul Harvey also looks a good chance. Great run last start, not tried over 1600m but races like the distance will suit. The other visitor - King's Arch in great form of late. My outsider - Main Stage. |

nice field. Dont really understand how Red Hannigan and Emission get in so light at the weights. Is it just the turf club attracting Eastern states horses. Both are G1 placed and get way less than old charges Finitio and the pocket rocket Corporate Bruce.
My early tips are: Finito Corporate Bruce Emission and Hardrada. will update closer to event after some serious form work. |

Very tough race (as usual)!
(7) Emission looks the best of the visitors. Nicely weighted, nicely drawn & has the services of Damien Oliver. (14) Modem racing in the best form of his life – nothing on his back. From a wide draw likely to get back but should be motoring home. (3) Finito as honest as they come. Down 0.5kg on last years effort in this race, beaten only 1.25len behind Old Fashion. (6) Corporate Bruce, a repeat of last years run would make him awfully hard to beat. Drops 1kg on that run beaten only a neck by Old Fashion (who has gone up 1.5kg) And I’ve left out horses like Old Fashion, Hardrada, Mapperholic & Red Hannigan – all very good chances. |
Tremendous race and very hard to sort out but right now this is how i am looking
Finito: Love this old timer and there was nothing not to like about his first up effort he is as consistent as they come Modem: Drawn out in the backrow of the grandstand but he gets back anyway will be coming home hard at the end of this one will be tough to hold out with no weight Roman Arch: The class horse of the race just wondering how much he has taken in the trip over to the west Track Jester: will be getting home at the end of this one but he is drawn wider than Modem but I really liked the way he hit the line last start. I thrown barriers out the window for now might change come saturday but we'll see what happens |

Do like Modem (14), as pointed out by Paddy, racing in peak form. Harvey's sticking to Mapperholic (10), so that's my 2nd choice. One of my favourites Tribula (4), to run a bold race. For value I'm sticking with Kensyl Bay (18), who is now assured a start. In the other Group race (WA Champion Fillies Stakes), I'm going for All Keyed Up (4), Belhari (3) & Detail (2).
