Does anyone have any selections for the 2004 BRITISH OPEN.
Golf is new to me so any help would be great. |
Did you ask your dad?
He knows a lot. |
Sorry don't follow ......
Did i miss something?? |
Apologies there son.
I thought your dad was Mr J. |
Na just obviously picked the wrong name to go under...
But do you have any thought's on the golf?? |
Yes.
I will have to take my 11 year old to play before the end of school holidays. Otherwise I will go insane from his continual requests. Actually,I think there may be an idea there. I am a full-time AFL punter and suffer severe withdrawal symptoms during the good weather. Maybe we can share information as we pick it up.I wonder if you've tried a GOOGLE search at all. |
No worries...
I have been given one tip by a big golf punter he said look out for "D LOVE III" he is paying $34 i might have a green back on him. but i thought i would ask the question to the guru's on here and see what they have to say. |
Mr m,
firstly welcome. let me apoligise for moeee ,he suffers from being a smartass most of the time and also he has all his hard earned cash tied up in St kilda winning the premiership. They continue to get worse but he continues to back them.If you could see his picture you would notice lots of abrasions from banging his head on the wall. As far as Golf goes, the americans tend to struggle in scotland because of the rough and the greens. Its tough to land on them because there so hard.tiger won at St. andrews but he was at his peak, and could have beaten anyone that week.My tip would be ernie or Retief(hes playing well and can now handle pressure).Phil Mickelson never features over there so if you do manage to find a winner you will get value, look for someone who has been playing well in europe and someone who has featured in previous years.Thomas bjorn should have won last year. The weather will be a factor as it tends to blow a bit so I wouldnt bet till after round one and then look for someone around 4-5 off the pace so you get a good price.hope that helps cheers P.S. There are some smart ************s on this forum who do know their stuff P.P.S http://www.tour-tips.com do alright picking winners. |
Thanks for that rabbitz..
I do O.K on the ponies but now time to try the talking kind. I'll let you know how i go. |
G'day boys,
i've been a keen golf follower for quite some time, but haven't ever really had many bets, because it is quite difficult. I have come up with these tips though (mainly outsiders) Sergio Garcia - $16.00: Won not too long ago and is a good golfer, and now is about the right time to burst onto the scene Padraig Harrington - $21.00: VERY consistent golfer who always does well in European events...Great value Fredrik JAcobson - $41.00: HAsn't been around for a while, but likes the European courses Trever Immelman - $61.00: South AFrican who hasn't had any luck with the majors so far, but still looks good hope this comes to some help Chuck |

Hello Mr m,
Here is a site for you to have a look at every Tuesday or wednesday they post their tips and they are very good. I recently won a lot of money on these tips and although this week they have bombed out im sure they will bounce back. The site is tour-tips.com Good Luck Regards Breadman |
hey mr m.
hear there has been good money for padraig harrington(i think hes spanish, well from the spanish 1/4 of dublin) cheers |
gary evans of england had an albatross(2 on a par 5)at british open
ive backed davis love III and he is 2 under after 3 holes cheers |
Moe, I'm pretty sure I don't have a son, and definately sure that if I did he wouldn't be old enough to post here unless I was pumped with hormones when I was 10.
|
ernie els aced the 8th
|
Geez, I wondered how come his score improved so quickly.
|
sportz, let me guess, youve taken ernie to finish top 5
cheers |
Yep, but I've really been 'daring' this time and had a smaller bet on him to win as well.
I also had small bets on Garcia and Davis Love for the top 5 and Appleby for Top Aussie. You watch them all collapse in a heap now. [ This Message was edited by: sportznut on 2004-07-15 19:58 ] |
well as you are aware the ************s leading
at -4 cheers |
Sportz, is the top 5 on sportsbet, because on sportstab they have a top 4 and the other week i had a look at tour tips and had a couple of bucks on their 3 tips and that s.ames paid $11 for a top 4 finish, so i made a few $$$ on my 1st golf bet EVER
|
Yep, TAB Sportsbet has Top 5. I personally prefer that over top 4. That one extra placing gives me a tad more confidence.
|
Does that mean they are a little shorter or is there no difference that you know of.
|
In most cases, the prices ARE a little shorter, but I'd rather have a slightly smaller dividend and get an extra chance at getting a result.
|
I would too, but i haven't got a sportsbet account any more, sportz do you bet on the jockey challenges,i used to like them as there was some good value at times, D.OLIVER use to go up fav all the time, i had 1 good collect when M. payne won @ $51 one day.
|
ooooohhhhhhhh ernie, ahh well -2 still a great start.......

Well, my bets aren't looking all that great. Ernie's doing okay I guess, but Love and Garcia... not good!!!
|
Goldmember,
Yes I do have a go at the Jockey challenge sometimes. Last week, I backed Michael Rodd at $2.80 and Jay Ford at $2.70. Mightn't sound like great prices but I actually thought they were good value, especially Ford. With the horses he was riding, he was realistically an odds on chance. He ended up riding 5 winners!!! [ This Message was edited by: sportznut on 2004-07-16 00:31 ] |
DAMN!!! So near but yet so far. Now you know why I don't usually bet to win in these big Golf tournaments.
The bookies must love the British Open these days. Curtis last year, now Hamilton.... who would have picked him??? |
My goodness! you're up early sportznut...and I thought I was an early riser
|
I didn't get up early. I was still up! I was watching my money go round in the Open and the playoff meant it went awful late, so I only had 2 or 3 hours sleep all up.

Watching golf keeps you awake
Just jokin, different strokes for different folks  |
 Yeah, I love watching the majors, but I can understand if the Golf bores some people. Anyway, Ernie's playoff loss meant that I only made a $7 profit. Not complaining though, because I would have made a loss if not for Davis Love holing out spectacularly for an eagle on the last hole.
|
Heard this morning 1 punter had $50 on hamilton @ $601 to win and backed up on him for a top 4 finish @ $126 on spotstab.
|
|
ahhh well sports, i think ernie would have been disapointed with himself, missed a few putts in the playoff, and not from any great distance, still if we made $7 profit on every bet we made , we wouldent complain
(well i wouldent) jimmy |

And I thought 500/1 was the best offered early. |
