I thought we could use this thread to talk about Olympic Games betting news and tips.
Here's a funny thing that I hadn't noticed until now. In the Olympic Baseball competition, can you believe there is actually no team from the U.S.A. No American team in the Baseball??? What the....? Australia has a good chance at the Bronze, but I don't think we can beat Cuba or Japan. Anyway, here are the odds from Centrebet: CUBA 1.65 JAPAN 2.10 AUSTRALIA 13.00 CANADA 15.00 CHINESE TAIPEI 21.00 GREECE 26.00 ITALY 101.00 NETHERLANDS 101.00 The Americans are certainly involved in the Softball and they will probably win it. Again, Australia has a good chance of a medal. Here are the latest odds: USA 1.20 JAPAN 5.00 AUSTRALIA 6.00 CHINA 16.00 CANADA 21.00 CHINESE TAIPEI 26.00 ITALY 151.00 GREECE 251.00 [ This Message was edited by: sportznut on 2004-08-05 18:35 ] |
Listening to a member of the womens basketball this morning, and they are very confident of winning gold at athens, they are ranked no.3 in the world [have been for a while]and only have U.S.A and RUSSIA as their main opposition , so i think the $12 is pretty good value.
|
How about $1.17 to finish in the top 4? It'll be tough to beat the U.S, but it's hard to see them not finishing in the top 4.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL GOLD MEDAL: USA 1.12 RUSSIA 10.00 AUSTRALIA 12.00 CZECH REPUBLIC 21.00 BRAZIL 26.00 KOREA 26.00 SPAIN 26.00 CHINA 31.00 JAPAN 251.00 GREECE 501.00 NIGERIA 1501.00 NEW ZEALAND 2501.00 AUSTRALIA'S FINISHING POSITION: 1st-4th 1.17 5th-8th 4.25 9th-12th 101.00 [ This Message was edited by: sportznut on 2004-08-06 10:44 ] |
Yeah i was going to put it in but i didnt think that anyone would be interested in very short prices, like hackett at $1.02 in the 1500m
[ This Message was edited by: goldmember on 2004-08-05 18:53 ] |
N.Z to finish 5th-8th @ $10 might be worth a token bet, dont know where their ranked, probably around 4th or so, sit back and watch them get rolled ! haha
|
There's one interesting bet they could think about. Who's going to win more Golds, Michael Phelps or the entire Australian swimming team.

Are you talking about Women's Basketball??? If NZ finish as high as 5th to 8th it would be a pretty big shock. |
Sorry sportz i remember now, thinking of the womens netball, their ok,not sure about the womens basketball, got them mixed up, my mistake, wipe that bet, might as well go out in the street and throw the money in the gutter!

Does Australia have any chance of a medal in tiddlywinks?
|
Australian gold medals U/O
UNDER 13.5 $1.80 OVER 13.5 $1.90 |
Goldmember, the NZ Women's Basketball team DOES have a couple of Netballers in it. That's where the similarity ends.
|
Women's Archery - Team Gold Medal
Korea @ $1.14. They've won every gold since they started competing. Men's Archery - Individual Gold Medal Two Aussies here worth a punt. Michele FRANGILLI,Italy @ $3 Dong Hyun IM,South Korea @ $3 Kyung-Mo PARK,South Korea @ $6 David BARNES,Australia @ $8 * ... Simon FAIRWEATHER,Australia @ $51 Barnes has been shooting very well, and got knocked out of the preliminary tornament by the eventual winner (Dong Hyun IM). Fairweather won gold in Sydney, but his shooting has dropped off recently, and he's coming back after a lay-off. But $51 seems pretty good. |
Hey guys,
What about most gold medals? Only 3 real choices: USA $1.28 Russia $3.85 China $8.00 Big improvement for the Russians and the Chinese over last 8 years. Plus this time, Greece is closer for Russia and China, and they can afford to send more athletes (I don't think the cost will affect the Americans). With both the Russians and the Chinese competing harder, it should make it closer all-around, and we might see the Russians pip the USA. But I'd want to see more than $3.85... I'd take $5.00+. So at these odds, USA looks the best. Previous totals 2000 G S B T 1 United States of America 40 24 33 97 2 Russian Federation 32 28 28 88 3 China 28 16 15 59 4 Australia 16 25 17 58 1996 1 United States 44 32 25 101 2 Russia 26 21 16 63 3 Germany 20 18 27 65 4 China 16 22 12 50 1992 1 Unified Team (ex USSR) EUN 45 38 29 2 United States of America USA 37 34 37 3 Germany GER 33 21 28 4 China CHN 16 22 16 1988 1 USSR 55 31 46 2 German GDR 37 35 30 3 United States of America USA 36 31 27 4 Korea KOR 12 10 11 1984 (Russan Boycott) 1 United States of America USA 83 61 30 2 Romania ROM 20 16 17 3 Federal Republic of Germany 17 19 23 4 China 15 8 9 |
Barring a heap of their athletes failing drug tests, the U.S will probably come out on top.

NZ gold medals u/o 3.5
under 3.5 $1.55 over 3.5 $2.30 Wonder what mdeals they could possibly win ? |
In Cycling, Triathlon, Rowing, Kayaking and Equestrian, Goldmember.
Sarah Ulmer will be favourite to win Gold in the individual pursuit in Women's cycling. Also, Bevan Docherty is a top chance for the Men's triathlon as are the Evers-Swindell twins in the Double sculls in the Rowing. Ben Fouhy also has a shot at a possible two gold medals in the Kayaking. And NZ is also likely to be Australia's biggest threat as we try to win the Eventing gold medal for the 4th Olympics in a row. So they do have a few good chances. i may possibly have missed someone else too. [ This Message was edited by: sportznut on 2004-08-12 11:32 ] |
so do you think over is a good bet or have they got it right at under 3.5 @$1.55
|
Well, at first glance, $2.30 doesn't sound too bad for over, but usually the bookies seem to be pretty close to the mark with these things. If the bet was under or over 2.5 golds, I'd say go with over, but at 3.5, I'm not so sure.
[ This Message was edited by: sportznut on 2004-08-12 12:12 ] |
Sports,
Predictions for NZ chances of gold suggest that they have 3 excellent chances of achieving the ultimate in rowing (womens pairs are favourites) canoe (single sculls) and Sarah Ulmer (world champion) NZs top cycliste...usually do well in yachting and have some chance in triathlons and other canoe and rowing events I think...but who knows? |
Sportsnut. How do you find time to do up your shoelaces?
Or you don't? |
The best value is for the American Men's basketball team to get rolled. They are odds on and have been in terrible form in the lead up comps. I think they finished 5th or 6th recently. They are no longer the Dream Team with the best NBA players not going to Greece and are a great lay
|
is that because of their dick size

I'm fairly confident that NZ can win 3 gold medals, but not so confident they can win more than 3. So, if Centrebet was offering a bet of over or under 2.5 gold medals, I'd say bet on over. However their bet is over or under 3.5 gold medals and I'm not so sure about that.

MENS-CYCLING ROAD RACE 14/8
Spain reported to have a very strong team, with three riders (Valverde 9/1, Astarloa 30/1, Freire 16/1) all capable of winning. Italy also a strong squad, with team captain Paolo Bettini (7/1) probably the World's #1 single day rider based on his two consecutive World Cup titles. Defending Olympic champion Jan Ullrich (9/1) of Germany has a strong team behind him as well. Alexandre Vinokourov 9/1 (Kazakhstan) is determined to better his 2000 Olympics silver medal. With Stuart O'Grady (7/1) and Robbie McEwen (13/1) at the start, Australia could deliver a medal. Belgium also has a decent team with the crafty, experienced Van Petegem (16/1) and an in-form Axel Merckx (80/1!). Dutch dangerman Erik Dekker (30/1!) certainly has the ability to win, and his form has improved after the Tour De France. Both Norwegian riders Thor Hushovd (11/1) and recent Tour of Denmark winner Kurt-Asle Arvesen (60/1!) are also strong riders. George Hincapie - USA (40/1) is always a danger man in a high-stakes one day race. _________________ May the luck of the Irish be with you! [ This Message was edited by: Paddy on 2004-08-13 20:52 ] |
Throwing all the form study in the wheelie bin for a while and want to have a play with Olympics betting.
Someone point me to where I can get an itinary as to what event is next on the card and what time it's run? |
Okay, hope this helps Mo.
Go to http://www.athens2004.com/en/results/results Where you see an 'F' that means a Final, and a gold medal will be decided. Click on those boxes and you'll get the Greek times. Simply add 7 hours to get Australian time. Another idea is to look at the TAB Sportsbet site, because they tell you which major events are coming up in the next couple of days and what time you have to get your bets on by. A couple of things you might find helpful with betting on some of the big events: 2004 Swimming world rankings: http://www.fina.org/wranklcmfront.html 2004 Athletics world rankings: http://www.iaaf.org/worldrankings/index.html [ This Message was edited by: sportznut on 2004-08-15 15:52 ] |
The Swimming went pretty much how I thought it would last night, with world records to Phelps and also our women's relay team. I was really disappointed with Thorpe's 400 swim though and his odds should definitely have gone out for the 200. Phelps, Hackett and Van Den Hoogenband will be more confident after seeing that. After last night's semi-finals, it also looks like it will be a tough ask for Petria Thomas to beat De Bruijn in the 100 fly tonight.
Tomorrow: Best Bet - USA in the Men's 4x100 Freestyle Relay at $1.40. Barring disqualification, they're pretty much certainties. Best Roughie - Kaitlin Sandeno in the Women's 400 Freestyle at $23.00. She took a huge slice off her PB in the medley last night and if she makes a similar type of improvement here, those odds are far too big. The favourite Hannah Stockbauer will probably be the one to beat though. [ This Message was edited by: sportznut on 2004-08-15 15:56 ] |
Think thorpedo wont have too much trouble in the 200,he looked to struggle the last bit, will be too strong tonight,my eyes wont open just yet after watching 7 games of football and then the swimming until 4.30 i,m starting to feel the pinch, setting the alarm for 2.40 am so i wont miss thorpe blow them away,NO one can beat phelps in a medley he's too brilliant.
