Please correct me if I'm wrong, here, but what has happened to the form of the horses who have beaten Starcraft? I refer to the 2 I know of; Balmuse and Mummify. Also, although it hasn't been officially noted, I picked up 1st and 3rd in the Caulfield Cup!!! Thank God Balmuse ditched out, though, because I accidentally put Desert War on instead of Grey Song at the TAB.
|
Assuming then that this is a fact. So now expecting a mass scratching in the Cox Plate! Or a field of horses running their best and last...
|
OMG! Did Mummify COMPLETELY DISMALLY FAIL in the Cox Plate? Whatever could make his form just DISINTEGRATE? He must be the latest horse to suffer from the Starcraft Curse. Now watch that Zagabel horse that won the Cox Plate NEVER DO ANYTHING AGAIN. I'm really onto something here...
|
Oops, I meant Elvis!
|
Elvestroms race was over as soon as he left the stalls. It was extremely dissapointing because I havent had a go this carnival until Cox plate day. The race itself was a flop. The jockeys just showed no initiative and it was simply a sit sprint race. Maybe we have been to spoiled in the last few years seeing stars like Northerly, sunline, M and P but it was a real boring race this time around.
P.S I thought STARCRAFT might be a little suspect at the 2040m. I hear they may set him for Englands sprint races like CHOISOR. I could really see this horse fly fresh in races like that! |
The Cox Plate has always been my favourite race, and I totally agree with the way it's become the last few years. It was always the one race where the best horse won - no exceptions. I would really love to see a race where there's no jockeys and just the best horses, and see if they race eachother, and see if they really understand the concept of sprinting for the finnish line...
|
On Saturday both Balmuse and Savabeel tested the theory. And proved it true. Elvis will not win the cup, bet a million trillion dollars to anyone who's game. This curse is actually not a joke anymore...

You are going to become broke eddy if you think the curse is fiction.

Looks like the Starcraft curse took care of Mummify and Elvstroem in the Cup. Fast Eddy, you still backing any of these horses?
[ This Message was edited by: Starcraft on 2004-11-03 09:30 ] |
What took care of Mummify and Elvstroem was the weather and two great horses which were clearly superior over 3200m.
|
I'm with you Sportz & Eddy.
I've never heard such a crock. And it sounds like he's serious. Rather than bag horses for beating Starcraft, face facts he has been the big disappointment of the Spring. Had every chance in the Cox Plate, which was his main mission. Query the owner for his strange prep. Let's just hope that he doesn't stuff up Private Steer. |
By the way!!
How did Grand Armee go on Saturday?? And, when did Elvstroem beat Starcraft?????? They only raced each other in the Cox Plate, and I thought your THEORY was only horses that beat Starcraft. |
Not sure, when did Elvstroem beat Starcraft? I'm sure it was only in the last month... It may be a crock, but I've been able to eliminate the most in form and competative horses from the big races which have ended up disappointing while I backed the winners. And I'm not a guy.
|
I think Starcraft was overrated in the Cox Plate. He was beaten by Balmuse and struggled to beat Miss Potential and what have they done this spring? He's still got a lot of learning to do. To me it seems as though he doesn't handle turns very well which is why he takes a while to wind up in the straight. Moonee Valley is definitely not the ideal track for him.
|
They hadn't raced each other since the AJC Derby (Starcraft won) until the Cox Plate.
So the thoery, is flawed. And what does "I'm not a guy" have to do with anything? Facts are facts, whether your a woman or a man. |
Miss potential won a group one last start.
|
It was a pretty average group 1 race except for Alinghi. eg. Skewiff was paying under $10. Skewiff is not a Group 1 horse.

If your point is to get your facts straight, then get them straight: you called me a boy and I'm not. Also, Elvstroem beat Starcraft in the Caulfield Cup so get that bit right. Then understand the curse only affects the winner of the race that won over Starcraft. Christ, I'm not THAT complicated.
|
Starcraft, I think it's great that you are so passionate. Good to see. You go girl!
You've got debate happening and thats got to be a good thing, and you're fiesty. [ This Message was edited by: fast eddy on 2004-11-08 15:19 ] |

Starcraft, I only backed Elvis in the Caulfield. Didn't think he would see out the 2 miles. Mummify hasn't been racing well enough. Balmuse IMO is better suited to fast/dead tracks, even though he has a good record in damp conditions. Like Starcraft, I prefer Balmuse over 1600m. At the end of the day I back horses that have form surrounding them along with a few other 'filters'. |

Well whichever race it was, I didn't hear you correct who ever it was. As if it's also not blatantly obvious Starcraft has flopped and aside from the name I don't know why you think I'm still backing this horse.
"Aint Seen Nothin'" is my favourite horse at the mo. Does anyone know anything about it - like if it's a boy or what. Colour? Trainer? |
Quote:
Ain't Seen Nothin' is a chick. 5yo and trained by Barbara Joseph, I think. Record 29-8-2-5 and won >$600k. Very consistent mare. Better over ground and needs a good track to perform to her best. Has a very good 2nd-up record 4 from 5. Sire: Nothin Leica Dane (trained by Gai Waterhouse at the time and pretty handy sort) and dam: Icecapade (better off the track than on). Other than that I can't help. |

Hey Northerly, did you hear Roy and HG talk about Northerly about 3 years back when he first hit Sunline form, and they called him the "schitzophrenic horse." I never liked him until they said that. They explained that when he went onto the track, his result would rest entirely on what sort of mood he was in.
And thank you for the info on Aint Seen Nothin'. Would you agree that Gaye Waterhouse persists with entering multiple horses in all the big races and still has reliably inconsistent results? She has one I like with some cool name, last season I think. |
Quote:
How long you been into racing starcraft. Northerly wasnt schizo, but he had an ungainly action and threw his head around. He was actually a very placid horse around the stables and trackwork but you wouldnt want to mess with him on race day. Fields of Omagh found that out the hard way when Norton bit him mid race. Waterhouse has the second biggest team in Australia. Her two year old record is fantastic but she really struggles with older WFA horses. her record in melbourne is horrendous. |
Northerly did seem to have an awful lot of different moods come race day much like Starcraft has displayed but atleast Northerly ran straight up the straight instead of hanging for half of it then finally getting it all together for the last half seems to take a very long time to balance up and get going.
|
"Northerly ran staight up the straight...."
Better ask Viscount about that in the Cox Plate - rumour has it they didn't put Viscount in his stall that night - they slipped him under the door!!! And yes I did back Viscount that day. |
LOL ok sorry I will give you that one but for the most part he went in a direct line he just sometimes seem to switch off thne start to really throw his head around similar to when Mr. Trister beat him.
|
Umrum, about Northerly, i was quoting somebody who wasn't being entirely serious. And I've been watching racehorses since early 90's when Cheval Jazz and St Jude and Triscay were racing.
|
You seem to be a horsey person rather than a punter. Fair Comment?
|
Definately. I just like to see good horses win great races. Make that good looking horses winning in great style.
I'm one of those annoyingly horsey kids, and ever since I can remember the only place I found them in the city was a TAB. I've been hanging out in TAB's since I was about 14. [ This Message was edited by: Starcraft on 2004-11-15 14:11 ] |

so you were a lonhro fan |
His pictures are still on my desk. Strange, cause I hated Octagonal, and the fans were definately divided, so it was good to see him officially outclass the old mule.
|
How could you hate the BIG O ???
Absolute Champion 3yo. |
As with Sunline and Doreimus, Octagonal did not do anything for me except tick me off when he was beating my horses.
Don't know why, I didn't like Better Loosen Up at first because of him beating Vo Rogue and Super Impose, not to mention what was left of Rough Habit. I ended up adoring him, though, and feel honoured to have seen a good horse go on to kick donkeys in the Japan Cup. |
