I have a big bet (for me) that Anothony will win @ 1.35 However... Casey has tightened from $4.50 to $2.70!
Anthony now $1.40 from $1.18. It said in the newspaper someone put $10,000 on him. im thinking anthony should be a certainty cause of the 'girlies' vote. However i think Casey is a darn good singer, even better than Anothony. Hmm im a bit weary of my bet now. Anyone take this on? |
No, I wouldn't bet on something like that.
Anyway, I reckon he WILL probably win, but it might be close. I have a theory about these things. Pretty girls just don't have a chance because young girls simply will not vote for them. However, 'average' looking girls like Casey do have a chance. I wasn't surprised at all to see her make the last two. From what I saw, she definitely outsang him on Sunday night too. I was thinking about putting some money when it was $1.22. Now that it is up to $1.40 I'm having 2nd thoughts. Strange logic???
$1.40 is better value than $1.22 but that means that it won't be as clear cut as everyone thinks |
Yeah im now thinking now it might be close...And one whole week to vote. Some people might be thinking he's so safe that they wont bother voting, like the late ricky lee.
Im still quite confident though. ive been using my work phone to vote (they pay) and im even voting at home, (winnings should pay the phone bill). You all can do the same Help Anthony WIN  DIAL 1902 55 55 61 |
After reading these polls, it's a definite no bet for me...
http://www.news.com.au Who should be the Australian Idol for 2004? Total votes: 12150 4994 41.1% Anthony 7156 58.89% Casey http://users.tpg.com.au/libertyx/idol/vote.htm Who do you want to win Australian Idol 2? Votes Percent 1. Anthony Callea 1452 60% 2. Casey Donovan 975 40% [ This Message was edited by: blackpantha on 2004-11-16 18:13 ] |
Notice the different questions. One said "Who SHOULD be the Australian Idol?" and Casey came out on top. The other one was "Who do you WANT to be the Australian Idol?" and Anthony came out on top. That's why it's tricky. If it just went on talent I think Casey would win, but we know it doesn't work that way and all those teenage girls votes may get Anthony over the line. I won't be betting on it though.
|
Australian idol has been unpreictable this year. Anthony and Casey making it to finals. Who would of thought.
Well on radio news guys hate Anthony but the age girls 12-15 will tend to vote for Anthony. kinda a tricky one. Ill vote for Casey actually. However I wouldnt put my money on it. |
never even watched this show. I hate it, I'd never bet on it.
There are better things to bet on. |
Well, I watch a bit of it every now and then, but I'd never bet on it. I personally think shows like this are a farce. They are popularity contests, not talent contests.
|
Sadly i watch this show religiously and about five weeks ago i had a measley $9 on casey at $27 on betfair, she's the best singer (most touchdowns) and shes cute but fat. I think anthony will win so i'm gunna hedge my bet and make sure i'll profit. $180 on at 1.40 gives me about 8/1 for my $9 either way.
|
when is the winner announced?
|
In about a week or so.
|
Now lets put all these arguments to rest
Anthony will win because the majority of the voting public is pre pubescent/pubescent girls i.e. girls 10-15.They are all lying awake at night having David cassidy/donny osmond type fantasies about Anthony.the only ones lying awake having fantasies about casey are those that cant wait to get down their local carpet munchers bar when they turn 18. They are the minority believe me.Anthony will win with as paddy says a leg in the air,and all those young girls will be praying its his middle leg Cheers  Well Well wasnt that a pleasant suprise Good on the case I hear that Anthony is going to try out for Queer eye for the short guy next year what about the loony who had the 10 large on Anthony He could have waited until New Zealand were 2-7 yesterday and then put his 10 large on australia at $1.24 How can you bet on something so uncertain as Australian Idol Cheers  _________________ [ This Message was edited by: rabbitz on 2004-11-22 08:05 ] |
Rabbitz, trust you to sum everything up so very succinctly (and a bit crudely).
Did you like the Sharapova pictures I posted yesterday? [ This Message was edited by: sportznut on 2004-11-17 17:31 ] |

I do not look at maria in that way,I value her like I did her compatriot anna kournikova for her exploits on the the tennis court not for her the fact shes got the best set of curves seen this side of the volga since khruschov was a boy Cheer  p.s. This is a family forum sportz please keep it clean. |
My cousin went to school with Anthony and he reckons he's Queer for sure, so he may have more then just the ladies voting for him.
|
i really think anthony should ******** it in, but casey has been in the paper and on the news far more than he has which i reckon will make it 2 close 2 call, anyway im not touching it, but on talent and potential to sell cds anthony will win, but really does it matter????
look whats happened with the 2 last years finalists, shannon id say is making far more jimmy |
My moneys on the fat sheila.

How much you got on her? Well my big bet for me is $1000 on anthonys head, and i bet a slab too from a workmate who thinks Casey will won.. well wants too. Yeah it seems its close in the media, tv.etc but i just think about it.. everything is really in his favour. He'll win in the end. I reckon the guy who put $10,000 must have money to burn on phone calls, gay community (extra votes), teengirl votes (huge advantage), and even though Casey is a better singer for me, that will score her some votes but Callea isnt as bad as shannon noel. Casey has a big future but Sunday is Anthonys. (i hope so cause its gonna hurt my $$) |
Commiserations to those who had money on Anthony.
Hate to say I told you so but... |
It feels like ive coped a stab in the gut and the bleeding hurts. all my president bush win is far gone.
Good on Casey, deserves to win, thought anthony had the fan base but its good to see people are voting for better singing. Casey was 4.50 when i backed anthony at 1.60 damn. |
tough blow doc
if you want a tip then back san diego tonight in NFL if you wanna make some $$ back.. |
Bad Luck DC. I thought he had it, stupid me i saved on him. It just goes to show you why i like to bet on animals rather then humans you can never know who everyone likes how much they vote etc.
|
Great! my missus now points out my two best wins this year(as far as she knows, he he) have been Trev on bb and now Casey on ai, both her picks. She picked Casey with eight left and Trev on day one. Not quite in punting spirit but with a form guide like her....

From The Herald Sun:
Idol bungle traps internet punters By Danny Buttler PUNTERS have cleaned up on Australian Idol after Queensland gamblers watching a delayed interstate telecast continued to bet for an hour after the winner was declared. Punters on controversial British internet betting exchange Betfair could not believe their luck when fellow gamblers placed thousands of dollars on Anthony Callea after he had already lost to Casey Donovan. It is believed the bets came mainly from Queenslanders who, despite being an hour behind other eastern states, thought their telecast was live. Betfair, which allows punters to act as bookmakers by offering odds to other online gamblers, did not close wagering on the event for several hours after it had finished. "Basil", a Melbourne punter who did not want to be named, said he could hardly believe it when money continued to be placed on Callea after Sunday's 10.20pm announcement. The punter, who made several hundred dollars by accepting late-night interstate bets, said he felt uncomfortable about accepting the bets, but could not resist the "money for nothing". "I just thought it was too easy," he said. "I thought for sure that the bets would be voided." But it was not just "past-the-post" punters who cleaned up. Several big last-minute bets created suspicions of a leak. Basil said he watched as 16-year-old Casey was backed from $4 outsider to favourite. One gambler offered even money on Anthony, collecting $50,000 after punters swooped on the odds. "I think someone had leaked it out," Basil said. Messages posted on Betfair's internet forum on Sunday night showed the anger of those left out of pocket. "This is ridiculous. If they want to keep the integrity of the exchange, then why didn't they suspend betting once the lines had closed?" one message said. "Somebody on the inside knows something," said another message. Centrebet, which was the only other bookmaker to bet on Idol, said such shows were a risk. Manager Gerard Daffy said Centrebet closed its books on all TV competitions three days before results were known. "I'm assuming someone works for those companies (which collate votes); hence, it wouldn't be hard to go and have a look (at the result)," he said. "That's why we take the precaution of turning that off three days before the event." Mr Daffy said Betfair should have been monitoring the event and closed betting before the winner was announced. A Channel 10 spokeswoman dismissed suggestions the winner could have been leaked before the live announcement. She said only a handful of people at the station and Legion Interactive, which controls the polls for both Australian Idol and Big Brother, knew the result before the announcement. Legion Interactive and Betfair could not be contacted for comment yesterday. Herald Sun [ This Message was edited by: sportznut on 2004-11-25 08:12 ] |
Well, I don't really have a lot of sympathy for any Queenslander DUMB enough to think it was 'live' up here, but the fact that betting wasn't shut down as soon as the result was known is a total joke. In fact, I reckon the way Centrebet does it is far better.... stop betting on it a few days before they announce the winner.

You might not have put money on Casey thefan, but you can claim first on thread to tip the underdog & eventual winner, Casey. No doubt all looking forward to the next edition from the yank tank. |
Paddy, Im putting it this way. Why I thought casey would win
- PPl will vote for Casey cuz shes not some skinny bimbo - She Lives in Sydney NSW the biggest state so if ya didnt know who to vote for go for ur state. - every guy thinks Anthony is an A..hole - Shes better than Anthony. |
Thats pathetic on behalf of Betfair, they aren't doing much for their credibility allowing things like that to go on.
|
Well, apparently, they're going to go back and work out exactly when all the bets were placed and cancel all the ones made after the announcement. But it shouldn't have been able to happen in the first place.
