Stony Creek?

Today's venues for us North American punters are Stony Creek and Nowra. I
don't recall ever playing Stony Creek. Is it a country track?

Thanks.

Glenn

Sportz 10th January 2005 07:17 AM

Yep. Sure is. As a rule, the meetings that are held on Monday over here, are pretty low standard country meetings. The only exception is when Monday is a public holiday. I'll have a look at them and see if there's any I like Glenn.

I have 2 'system' picks for Stony:

R5 Womban Road e/w
R7 Dooley's Bridge win only

La Mer 10th January 2005 09:16 AM

Located about 150km south-east of Melbourne, the 'Creek' is a saucer shaped track having a sharp turn into the straight which is 340m, with an uphill run to the post.Inside barriers a definite plus, particularly in the sprint races of 1000m/1100m where the start is in a smallish shute.

Stony Creek: 2-7 - Xaab
Nowra: 4-4 - No Idee

Many thanks to everyone who responded.

Hmmm, I should have added one extra horse in Stony Creek R2. I had Victory Class down as my 6th selection and it's popped into 2nd place at huge odds. The trifecta paid $652 here.

TheAvenger 10th January 2005 12:54 PM

Thanks for the selections, Sportz. Alas, In the 2nd trace at Stony Creek, I played a tri with 6,7, 6,7 all. I should have used both 6 and 7 in a quinella, and wheeled them with several. Coulda, woulda, shouda. That's why they call it punting. I think that the way a race is bet is as important as picking the correct finishers. The $1 tri here paid $325, the $2 quinella $50.00. I usually do well punting on my Sunday nights. I appreciate the help from you and everyone.

Regards,

Glenn

Notice you have posted race selection total combinations of various sizes today sportz (e.g. 5, 6, 7) do you have a minimum / maximum number of selections that you work to when making your selections and of course when you have a punt?

Do you bet much on your local races Glenn?

Sportz 10th January 2005 01:04 PM

Yeah Glenn, it's amazing how easy it is AFTER the race to know what you should have done. :)

That race looked like a deadset match race. I was almost certain that either Tristo or Xaab would win the race. Funny thing is that in races like that, often you'll find that one of them wins but the other doesn't even finish in the placings.

TheAvenger 10th January 2005 01:35 PM

True, Sportz. Any horse can be beaten on a given day. I play little local racing; mostly just Aussie. I'm addicted.

Well, these are just a guide for Glenn and anybody else that wants to use them. I won't be betting on all of those races I gave tips in. I also don't usually decide until just before the jump what sort of multiple bets I'll be putting on and which runners I'll include. When it comes to trifectas, depending on the difficulty of the race, I like to use one of the following:
4 horse box $12
5 horse box $30
2/5/5 $12
3/5/5 $18
2/6/6 $20
3/6/6 $30
2/7/7 $30
roving baker with 4 others $18
roving banker with 5 others $30

In R4 at Stony Creek, I ended up settling on a 3/5/5 trifecta with 7, 9 & 10 for 1st and 12 & 14 added for the placings.

I'm dirty that I didn't include Number 5 in the tips for Race 1 at Nowra. Good old outside barrier horse again and I didn't pick it.

TheAvenger 10th January 2005 02:25 PM

Are those half-dollar bets, Sportz? Here, we have $1 minimums on trifectas, and they cost twice what you quoted.

Glenn

Sportz 10th January 2005 02:32 PM

Yeah, a 1/2 unit. I'm not a huge punter and I'd have to find a way of cutting back on the trifectas if the minimum was a dollar unit. If it's a big race and I'm very confident of my selections, I could go as high as $50 or $60, but that would be rare. Normally I don't like to spend more than $30 on a trifecta.

La Mer 10th January 2005 02:51 PM

Glenn - Race 7 at the Creek is the last you bet on I think. The following are the Unitab (top five) ratings converted to prices - may help you a little re value:

Dooley's Bridge $3.80
It's All Good $4.80
Native Knight $6.30
Gorgeous Gold $7.60
Mookta Heights $9.50

Best of luck, sleep well.

TheAvenger 10th January 2005 03:25 PM

Thanks. Yes we only get the 1st 7 there. It's been a tough night. Either they have been nearly impossible to have, or they have paid very little. I will bet the 7th and go to bed. (It's 11:30 PM here, late for an old man) I often do that; gives me something to look forward to tomorrow when I check results.

Glenn

Hi Glen,

Just wondering which betting agency in the USA takes bets on Australian racing? Do you place your bets via the net?
Am interested to know.

Cheers
ATC

Sportz 10th January 2005 03:38 PM

Yeah, some of the races have been tough today Glenn. I might have to concentrate on ratings a bit more. My weight ratings method had Lafayette Express rated basically equal with No Idee and Rambah in Nowra R4 today.

TheAvenger 10th January 2005 03:43 PM

Hi Assume The Crown:

We have a number of online companies (brisbet, Youbet, others) that take action over the internet on Aussie racing, although Americatab is who actually handles it all. Yes, I bet and watch the racing live online.

Glenn

Sportz 10th January 2005 04:03 PM

You beauty! I got the trifecta on Nowra R5. I took 1,2,5 / 1,2,5,7,10,11. It paid $427 for a half. :)

Once again the weight ratings I did had number 7 rated on top and that was the only reason I included it. Definitely going to have to concentrate on these weight ratings from now on.
