Where is the tumble-weed?

This place is very quiet these days.

Mr J 11th January 2005 09:58 PM

...

I guess it's the quiet time of year for aussie sports. Super 12s and the rest of the footy aren't too far away.

knowledge 11th January 2005 10:28 PM

well while we wait...

maybe you could tell us what J stands for? :D

rabbitz 12th January 2005 03:50 PM

It stands for Mr. Just dont take unders

Sportz 12th January 2005 04:07 PM

Hey Rabbitz, getting your tipping brain ready for those Footy tipping comps we're going to have on the forum this year???

Chuck 12th January 2005 04:45 PM

i can't wait

Chuck 12th January 2005 04:46 PM

what are your thoughts on the rules?

point system or profitmaking? - what bet types?

Sportz 12th January 2005 06:10 PM

Still working it all out Chuck, but we'll make it a betting comp rather than a tipping comp. Like the regular tipping comps, you'll have to make a selection for each game, but we'll be tipping line or margin bets instead of just the outright winner. We'll also put on one multi each week and there'll be the "match of the round" where we'll do something extra.

By the way, can you guys please tell me what margins Sportstab and Sportodds use for AFL betting? 24.5 points or 39.5 points?

knowledge 12th January 2005 06:28 PM

i like the sounds of that Sportz. When does AFL season start?

the margin is 39.5 used by sportstab.

Sportz 12th January 2005 06:39 PM

Thursday 24th March (Brisbane vs St Kilda). Round 1 this year is the Easter weekend.

We'll run a tipping comp on the AFL, NRL and Super12.

Are you sure? I thought they used to use 24.5.

knowledge 12th January 2005 06:57 PM

I'm positive that my TAB's margin is 39.5, I don't see why the TAB I use would be 15 points different to NSW tab.

u're talking about the winning margin right? Under/over 39.5 pts? If so then I'm sure its 39.5.

why did you think it was 24.5??

Sportz 12th January 2005 07:03 PM

Where do you live?

The TAB in Victoria (TAB Sportsbet) have always had 39.5 points for AFL and a lot of other bookies do too, but the NSW TAB (Sportstab) definitely used to have 24.5 points and I think Sportodds may have as well. I just wanted to know if they had changed that.

Chuck 12th January 2005 07:14 PM

39.5 iis what i use...and i use sportstab...why don't we make our own line bets from sportsodds? (can you get the odds w/o having an account?)

Sportz 12th January 2005 07:30 PM

No, we certainly won't be using 'pick your own' odds on individual games, although we could consider it for multis.

Sportz 12th January 2005 07:40 PM

By the way Chuck, when I was at the Sportstab site today (trying to find out what their AFL margin was), I stumbled across some of their betting rules. From what I could gather, those big multi-bets you've been having for the $50 challenge, seem to be illegal. Apparently, in a multi, you can't have two or more options from the same game. In other words, they won't let you have a multi where you back Australia to win and McGrath to take most wickets. You'd have to have those two in separate bets. That's what I thought from my reading of their rules anyway, but I guess I could be mistaken.

Chuck 12th January 2005 07:52 PM

i just looked up and realised that your right!!! I haven't ever tried putting any of these bets on, so i wasn't aware i was breaking any rules!

lol
it wasnt like any of them were going to win anyway! :p

Jack Daniels 13th January 2005 09:45 PM

You can only take a maximum of 10 legs in a multi too with odds of less than $5,000.00 to 1.
