Any 2
just a quick post.
as a bit of an exotic player(yes bang my head etc) what is the forums thoughts on this betting. the pools are small but non fav pay outs look ok? i like the exacta standout. but!!!!! just a thought! |
rooburger,
Here's an idea you might like to try. If you think you have a surefire placegetter, you could perhaps think about taking it as a banker in an any2 bet with the field. Then if your horse runs a place, you hope that a roughie lobs into one or both of the other placings. You could use it on any race, but I think fields of 8-10 are best because there's not too much expense (especially if you only use a 50c unit). And you can also do this with 2 horses as bankers. I was VERY keen on the Canterbury meeting today, so I decided to play around with it there. I picked out 5 races where I thought there were two very strong place chances. This is how I went today: R2-1 Klarissa (Out: $3.50 In: $7.10) R2-5 Miss Celia (Out: $3.50 In: $5.35) R4-1 Canny Princess (Out: $4 In: $18.25) R4-2 Nice Surprise (Out: $4 In: $28.50) R5-1 Restless Wind (Out: $4 In: $8.55) R5-7 Arunluck (Out: $4 In: $9.55) R6-1 Afraah (Out: $4.50 In: $22.10) R6-10 Long Stem Red (Out: $4.50 In: $0) R7-4 Canny Louis (Out: $4.50 In: $0) R7-8 Genghis Khan (Out: $4.50 In: $13.35) Out: $41 In: $112.75 Now, remember to win these banker any2s you just have to pick a placegetter, so it's basically the same as having a place bet except you can possibly end up with a larger dividend. As a comparison, if you had simply bet $4 for a place on all of those 10 runners you would have got these results: Out: $40 In: $49.60 So, why not try it out on paper for a while. Remember, try to stick to smallish fields where you are very confident of being able to pick a placegetter. |
thanks Sportz food for thought!
i think any 2 is under utilized as a back up bet to win only. will give it bit of a go after a trial. |
can someone tell me what an any2 bet is
i have never heard of it i am in N.S.W is this a service that other states offer thanks in advance geoffro |
Yeah, not available in NSW as far as I know. An Any2 bet is where you simply have to pick two horses that will finish in the placings. It's like a quinella, but they don't have to finish 1st & 2nd. You also win if they finish 1st & 3rd or 2nd & 3rd. Any2s are available on Unitab (Qld,SA,NT), but you can also do the same thing in Victoria. It's called a 'Duet' down there. Not sure if they have them in WA or ACT.

Firstly well done Sportz I had a play around with your idea and wondered how you would have gone using your two selections in a rover trifecta and came up with for a full unit the following race 2- out $36 In $112.20 race 4- out $42 In $556.90 race 5- out $42 In $156.20 race 6- out $48 In $0 race 7- out $48 In $0 Total out $216 In $825.30 There is substantially more risk outlay etc in the tri's obviously cheers |
Rabbitz,
Yeah, certainly good results there, but as you said more risk. I didn't actually hear what happened in race 2 but I know that in the other 2 races where I got both placings, I was on the right end of very close photo finishes for 3rd. If I had lost both of those, I would have made a loss with the trifectas, but still made a handy profit on the any2s. |
Any 2's or duets will definitely be coming to NSW this year.
Well worth a look. Good Punting |
We don't really have any fancy bets here....only the fav numbers and thats just rubbish....just traditional bets
|
did a little testing on a small sample.
looks okay. a few rules helped. do not stand out fav. try not to have more than 5 runners (fav okay here,) for the other place getters- this gives better return per $ invested. for a place bettor this gives a much better return in a small field. as i said only a samll sample from recent races around 200 in all with 8 to 10 runners. greyhounds were surprisingly good. i think this form of betting is untapped. the quest continues. |
Greyhounds are brilliant for Any2s. On some occasions, you can just take box 1 & 8 with the field in every race on the card and show a profit. Boxing 1, 2, 7 & 8 is also good at some tracks.

I know this thread is going back a fair way, but I was musing last night on why there is so little by way of ideas or comments on Duets or Any2s in these forums. Any ideas? Checking back through the search facility of the site I found there was little except this thread that spent any time even considering the subject.
I have never once backed them; but find it interesting that they are a permanent part of our horse racing nowadays it would seem. They must attract some interest or I could not see the Tabs worrying about them. Of course, they may be only seen as another way to 'fleece' the punter! |

think the 'fleece' bit might be around the mark, just another 'fluff' type bet imo |
