Neuralmania

I have been quite successful over the past two weeks with a Place system based on the neurals. I'll list today's selections and see how they go...

Eagle Farm R4 no.4 - Florilegium
Moonee Valley R2 no.4 - Strata Title
Moonee Valley R3 no.2 - Foreast Spy
Moonee Valley R6 no.5 - Golden Delicious
Ballina R4 no.3 - Glory Of The Sea
Townsville R6 no.1- Sea Zulu
Townsville R7 no.5 - Tuscan Illusion.

michaelg 14th June 2005 10:40 AM

Unfortunately due to a mix-up I listed yesterday only the raw qualifiers and not the system selections. One of the eliminating rules is that the selection must have placed at its last start. Applying this rule the following should not have been listed:

Moonee Valley R6 no.5 - unplaced.
Ballina R4 no.3 - unplaced.
Townsville R7 no.5 - unplaced.

The system selections therefore should have been:
Eagle Farm R4 no.4 - won, paid $1.50 for the place.
Moonee Valley R2 no.4 - won, paid $2.10 for the place.
Moonee Valley R3 no.2 - third, no place dividend.
Townsville R6 no.1 - won, paid $1.10 for the place.

No selections today. However I have been testing another system which is not as selective as the above, and has also been quite successful. There are three selections today:

Scone R7 no.9 - Little Lonhy
Pakenham R5 no.11 - Pleasure Cruiser
Pakenham R10 no.3 - Sensational Toy.

michaelg 15th June 2005 10:14 AM

Today's system (Refined) are:
Canterbury R3 no.2 - Rocking On
Canterbury R7 no.8 - So Determined
Werribee R5 no.2 - El Zahia
Dombeen R1 no.2 - Yickadee
Northam R9 no.1 - Scottish Storm.

General system:
Canterbury R3 no.2 - Rocking On
Canterbury R6 no.2 - Springball
Werribee R1 no.3 - King Charles
Werribee R4 no.2 - St Louis Blue
Werribee R5 no.2 - El Zahia
Gawler R1 no.12 - Tenfuhrcent
Gawler R3 no.10 - Symmetrical
Gawler R6 no.1 - Geppetto's Star
Dombeen R1 no.2 - Yickadee
Dombeen R3 no.2 - Cold Spring
Northam R2 no.12 - Never Respond
Northam R6 no.5 - Silver Seam
Northam R9 no.1 - Scottish storm.

Hopefully both systems will perform has they have done in the past.

michaelg 16th June 2005 10:20 AM

Not a good day yesterday - the General system is now history, but the Refined system has a long way to go to put me in the red. Yesterday there were three placegetters (and a fourth) from the five selections paying only $3.50.

Four selections for the Refined system:

Rosehill R3 no.3 - Steflara

Today's selections are:

Three selections for the refined system:
Eagle farm R5 no.7 - Nessuno
Newcastle R2 no.3 - Cendawave
Newcastle R7 no.6 - Contrast.

Agree MG wet tracks are a problem for neurals.

I've tried CP 3 JT 3 CRS 3 DIST 5 DLR 5 with the WT set on 4 or 5 for slow or heavy.

From the top 4 i then select either the lowest weighted or the horse ridden by the apprentice claiming the most.

My cardinal rule for most races is the old but true
" if wet don't bet".

michaelg 26th June 2005 09:21 AM

Hi, Kiwi. I fully agree - not only do the neurals have a problem with Slow and Heavy tracks, but generally most punters. Even Don Scott recommended that betting be avoided with these track conditions because there can be too many unknown factors involved.

One selections for the Almost system today:
Casterton R7 no.5 - Royal Spin.

michaelg 27th June 2005 10:02 AM

Yesterday's Almost system selection ran second, paying $1.70.

Staking Plan for the Neuralmania system

congrats on the start of something big(hopefully).
I can't improve your system, but I'd like to offer a staking plan I've used with success over the years.

Each bet is 5% of your bank

Each bet is in the win/place bet ratio 1:5

there fore, if your horse places, and pays $1.25 or more, you are a winner.

If it places- paying only $1.20- you break even on the bet.

This staking plan is useful with systems enjoying a good collect(1st,2nd or 3rd) strike rate.

michaelg 30th June 2005 10:15 AM

Hi, Yuckman. Your method seems very good and I'm glad you've had succcess with it over the years. However I don't use a staking plan as I place my bets in the morning and usually don't watch/listen to the races. If I did I would certainly try a similar method not only for the possibility of improved results but also for the adrenalin rush.

Yesterday both selections placed, paying $1.30 and $1.40.

Two Almost system selections today:
Port Augusta R6 no.5 - Just Vic
Port Augusta R8 n0.9 - Sundanz

michaelg 2nd July 2005 11:13 AM

A bad day on Thursday - both selections were unplaced.

Three selections today for the Almost system:
Belmont 5 no.4 - Our Grey Halo
Belmont r6 no.7 - Aunt Lydia
Belmont R7 no.6 - Bold Ransom

Good afternoon everyone. Just finished a losing one at that but still brimming with confidence.Hope all of you are likewise.
What are Neurals? A brief outline would be interesting, if you don't mind Michaelg.Thanks.
And you Kiwi: I'm hoping you've not forgotten our previous discussions. See Tipster's Plan thread. Good luck to one and all.P57

Here you are,

Races of 1,600 metres-plus have fared very poorly in both the Refined and Almost systems. In fact both systems would be well in profit if I had (with hindsight) deleted these races. From today I'll only look at races under 1,600 even though there will not be much action.

No selections today.

michaelg, regardless of which of the many selection methods i try, they are all improved markedly by deleting out those races over 1400, maidens & listed/group events.

seems that way for many others as well, & if anyone can explain why it is so i would be more than interested.

michaelg 5th July 2005 10:27 AM

Davez, the only reason I can think of with the longer races is that the luck factor seems to be stronger. There is the possibility that the race may not be truly run which can lead to "sprinters" or badly weighted horses winning in a slowly-run race. Or again, in a very fast-run race, it could provide an advantage for the backmarkers and consequently a disadvantage for the leaders. And these types of races have in the past often led to uncertainty for most of the jockeys.

Maybe with Maidens, they don't have enough race starts, if any, to use as a reliable guide for the form. And maybe also any unsuccessful horse no matter how good or bad it is, or its age, can lead to a hodge-podge/lottery-type race?

One selection today which happens to be in a Maiden race;
Almost system
Gold Coast R3 no.12 - Sweet Venture

michaelg 6th July 2005 10:31 AM

Yesterday's selection placed, paying $1.40.

Two selections today for the Almost system:
Randwick R5 no.2 - Turn The Tide
Belmont R5 no.1 - Zedfire.

DR RON 6th July 2005 03:28 PM

I had a lookat the neurals yeasterday and in a race at Benalla the highest points awarded for the barrier position were to a horse in barrier 13? can someone please explain how this could be as I dont think any barrier 13 in the country could be rated as the best.

beton 6th July 2005 05:44 PM

In a shorter race the advantage is to get in the best position first (second and /or one out)and maintain it ( prevent another boxing you in). This gives you the slipstream effect (conserving energy) and the position to overtake the leader (as it starts to flag) in the last stages of the race. Horses and jockeys that can do this win many races. In longer races it becomes imperative to conserve energy (race inside the pack) and be in a position to break out and overtake at the same time a dozen others want too. Speed stamina and position versus position stamina and speed. Many people say that slipstreaming doesn't count in horse racing but every race utilizes it. If it can effect Spindly Grindle on two wheels it will definately effect a 50kg runt riding on a 700kg ball of muscle snorting it's way down the track.

michaelg 7th July 2005 10:33 AM

Since eliminating 1,600 metre-plus races (Tues 5 July) there have been only three selections, all in the Almost system, for two placegetters paying $1.30 and $1.40. Hopefully today will put the system in profit.

Three selections for the Almost system:
Mackay R6 no.5 - Shakesperian
Mackay R7 no.14 - Victory Siren
Northam R9 no.6 - Straight Business.

michaelg 8th July 2005 10:23 AM

Yesterday there were two placegetters from the three selections paying $2.10 snd $2.20.

Today there is one selection for the Refined system:
Murray Bridge R9 no.16 - It Ain't Easy

Two selections for the Almost system
Ipswich R4 no.9 - Lambretta
Ipswich R6 no.1 - Lavinia Mary

michaelg 9th July 2005 11:42 AM

Yesterday the Refined system selection placed paying $1.60. From today I'm cancelling the Almost system and in its place I'll list the selections for another Place system, a mechanical system, that has to date been profitable. We'll see what happens...
