Noise

I used to love going to the track and haven't been to the races for a long time, mostly due to Betfair, it's just too easy to stay home and win. Having said that I don't think I would enjoy it any more. With all those so called ex perts with their big microphones shouting their opinions at everyone and overstating the obvious and saying every second horse and jockey are outsssstanding, and champions, and stars, and every other phrase is "absolutely" and " no doubt about it", and "as I said".
How sycophantly boringly and loud.

Still worth a visit, especially some of the country / provincial meetings

Not to forget that the owners will be "a static". Really?, their horse has won and they'll stand still??

The country races are always so much better for atmosphere and crowd, especially when you can get a decent view and not some speck in the distance.

Depending on your propensity to 'kick on' after the country cup's are always great fun both throughout the day and in the pubs afterwards. I've been going to the Port Augusta cup basically every year since I was 18 (27 now) and it's always a great day out. Majority of the crowd are just locals that have little idea about punting but that doesn't even matter because the whole day is about enjoying the races, having laughs and a drink or three.

I've been to some of the city tracks and while its still an enjoyable day out its just not the same. There seems to be a lot more stiff grumpy older men at the city tracks. I guess it depends what your there to do, have a good time or make a dollar or two, each to their own i suppose.

And the old "yeah, no, he went good" from the trainer.

Funny you say that CP. My mates went in on a horse together and I declined to join them. It's first race in which they owned it, it came 2nd last. At the following meet one of my mates asked the trainer a question about the horses form to which the reply was 'I don't know'. Safe to say my mate wasn't happy with the response as the trainer basically gave the impression he knew nothing about the horse.

After it ran last on that day they gave it the flick and vowed not to go back to that trainer.

Only have been visiting country/prov tracks around Victoria/NSW/SA these days, try & get to at least one I haven't been to before once a year, great way to see the country side & take a break.
