New Broadband suggestions?

Just heard that my AAPT broadband is going up in price from $29 a month to $49 a month (stand alone) as it's only 500MB @ 256K maybe it's time to change, I only kept this one as its no plan.

So I'm thinking maybe 10-12 GB @512K any recomendations (I'm in WA)

No contracts you can have money deducted from account or pay 3 months up front.

I have been with them for 12 months and can't fault the service we have 4 computers that use the service at the same time with no problems.

Thanks Shaun sounds good, is that stand alone? also forgive my ignorance but is that ADSL or wireless?

Just had a look, sounds good, though I'm not sure about needing a new ADSL modem or not?? by the way they do have a cancellation fee of $65 in the first 12 months ,but still not bad.

Yes thats stand alone adsl. you will find all services have that fee on that plan you would not need a new modem.

You can double check that with them another option is have a look at westnet or iinet they are both good, stay away from telstra i find there plans are not as good for what you are getting.

I'm in Vic but went from Pacnet to Bigpond solely for the purpose of the Bigpond TVN horseracing feed. It's contract based which I despise but I'm sorry I didn't do it about 2 years earlier. The Bigpond plan was comparable to Pacnet but without the benefits of the horseracing feed.

I know Bigpond a bit of a whipping boy but I've had no issues and also no have wireless :) Worth looking into I reckon.

I think it's $69 a month on a 24m contract with the first 9 months at half price.

Two years ago, I gave away Bigpond, as they weren't flexible on price.
It's a bit rich when you're on double the rate of new customers and they won't negotiate.

So I went to Australia Online $79.95 for 20Gb @ 1500 speed.

But I'm jumping ship, I just found out I can get triple the download speed, triple the limit for $20 less per month at aaNet.

ADSL2-Plan-1 $ 19.90/mo $ 29.90/mo 2 Gbytes + offpeak

ADSL2-Plan-2 $ 29.90/mo $ 39.90/mo 20 Gbytes + offpeak

ADSL2-Plan-3 $ 39.90/mo $ 49.90/mo 40 Gbytes + offpeak

ADSL2-Plan-4 $ 49.90/mo $ 59.90/mo 60 Gbytes + offpeak

ADSL2-Plan-5 $ 79.90/mo $ 89.90/mo 100 Gbytes + offpeak

Oh and Bigpond never took my horseracing access away two years on ;)

Mmmmmm, the plot thickens...... thanks for the replies, one question what is this Horse Racing Feed? (please don't anyone say "oats" )

Shaun 19th September 2008 03:30 PM

Bigpond provide races live if you have adsl with them, not sure what they cover, i used to get all races with my NSWTab account but NSW and VIC races have been removed so i don't bother now.

This thread made me look at my plan with Bigpond $69.95 for 12gig @ 1500 speed, rang them last night asking how come its cheaper and quicker with other carriers , They bumped me up to ADSL2+ for the same price $69.95, normal price would of been $89. Telstra man has just changed it over (in the middle of writeing this) Need a new router now :( (speed test shows it five times faster)

Shaun 19th September 2008 05:49 PM

I was on adsl2+ for awhile but found the performance was not matching the price i was paying, you can only get a webpage as fast as the other computers network alowes, sure if they have fast speed but most do not.

Unless you are a download freak i find you don't notice the difference in speed.
