Real Deal 27th October 2005 11:31 AM

Starcraft

He has been very unlucky in drawing barrier 14 out of 14 for Saturdays Breeders cup classic on the dirt. Odds have severly drifted according to the major betting agencies. Saratoga have you got any more info?

Hey Real, i don't as of this minute. i just started really checking into these races, but i am really surprised that Makin chose the Classic. This might be a good sign though. Terrible post!!!!!! At Belmont, the 1 1/4 mile races on the Dirt start about 3/4 of the way on the Clubhouse Turn making the race a one and 3/4 turn race as opposed to two turns. The Belmont oval is the largest in the United States and is known as "Big Sandy". I have to check all the past BC's held at Belmont but I do remember that UNBRIDLED won this race here from the same outside post after all the talk was about how hard it was to win from there on this course. The truth is, that pp can lose a horse a hell of a lot of ground, but it looks like STARCRAFT is more of a closer type since going to Europe. In our form it looks like he was a more on the pace runner, but after their mistakes with ALINGHI, I hardly trust them. I thought he was a HUGE chance of winning the mile. I don't know about the first on the dirt and in North America. I hope he likes the mud also. It has been raining for almost all of October on the North East coast here. The DRF.COM site has video replays of alot of the prep races for the BC for FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The owners gotta be absolutely joking.

He's outlaid $1 MILLION to run Starcraft in a $6 MILLION race.

The horse is drawn the extreme outside on a dirt track surface which Starcaft has never raced on.

Fair Dinkum some people have more money....

Man, Chrome, I'm just sitting here wantin to wring paul Makin's neck! At least give the horse a chance in the MILE. Cumani wanted to go in the MILE, but what does a trainer know? LOL! Damn shame. Although the Supplemental fee is directly proportionate to the purse value so that's neither here nor there, except that it's a terrible spot for STARCRAFT. Does have Pat Valenzuela riding(the MUCH troubled California top rider, who has won this Classic before). If this guy had kept his head straight, he would have been the best of all time. He likes his fun though.

I was actually hoping they would take that young french bloke with them to ride Starcraft was really impressed the way he hadnled the horse because he isn't the easiest horse to handle. I love what Makin has done sending the horse over to the states most other owners would have snet him straight to stud after winning in europe I beleive he is headed there after the Breeders Cup race though. I guess if your going to go you may aswell go for all the bikkies and not just half hearted he won't have any trouble with the 2000m now I don't think and the wet track won't worry him him however the dirt maybe a different proposition, but you never know if you never ever go.

All I can say is I have loved this horse since the 1st time I saw him race I always thought he was the best horse racing in Australia last year and if not for injuries that may have been proven right. I will say thank you Paul Makin for letting the world see this wonderful horse and fingers crossed he can deliver once again in his swansong the barrier won't be a help but they aren't the be all and end all.

saratoga samchaz 29th October 2005 02:23 AM

Right you are about the post postitons and Makin's sportsmanship, but the smart play was the MILE> Hey, I would love to see STARCRAFT win. Everybody here would be patting me on the back as I've been talking up Aussie racing for a few months now and they look at me like I'm nuts. Makin deserves this win if he gets it. I don't think it's gonna be wet at all either as the rain has finally stopped and the wind is blowing pretty good. Fast dirt probably and good to firm turf with some give in it. Think Starcraft will like the dirt that much, REAL? Why?

saratoga samchaz 29th October 2005 02:23 AM

Raw!

Raw Instinct 29th October 2005 06:14 AM

The Dirt is the only thing that worries me he has never raced on it though he races as if he might race well on it these days not sure though.

Starcraft 29th October 2005 07:45 PM

Go you good thing!

7:35am Sunday Qld time on SKY channel. Go get them, tiger!!!

dundas lane 30th October 2005 12:31 AM

Rock Hard Ten has been scratched from the Breeders Cup Classic, leaving Starcraft third in the market, (around 11/2), behind Saint Liam and Borrego. Makes his task easier, but he'll still have to run the race of his life to figure in the finish.

Don't think the Australian racing media have fully appreciated what this horse has achieved since leaving our shores. If he wins, that makes it 6 Group 1's in 5 different countries, at distances from 1400-2400 metres; Outstanding!

Go Big Fella !!!!
