Makin You Are A Legend!
Have you heard about Starcraft and Makybe? This has to be the most exciting breeding prospect in history. I am already tipping they will name the foal Star Diva. Although I'd personally prefer something like Darth Vadar...
Anyone have any ideas when Starcraft's racing next? Wasn't it November in Hong Kong then March in Dubai? |
Great mares have a pathetic history of throwing great foals [can't think of one exception, can you? I know there are a couple but can't think of them off the top of my head. It's very rare]. They have already given their best to racing so the philosophy goes.

jezebeel's baby won a maiden the other day very easily....
might hear more from this one... |
Hope the kid goes on with it. Should be more of it but it's very rare. Roy Higgins wrote an article in last weeks Winning Post on exactly that subject. He mentioned a few, but I forgot their names. My comment about mares already 'having given their best to racing' was his.

Santic doesn't need to race it, imagine what it would be worth at the yearling sales! 2.5 mill for a 3/4 brother recently wasn't it?
|
Ahem
I got the quinella in the cup a few years back with Yippyio and Brew because I was a fan of both their mothers. So the only time I've been aware of it, they paid off. But I know Triscay had a dud foal, Riskala or something...

Ummm, this was just his suggestion. Who says that Santic would actually do it. After all, it's up to the owner of the mare which sire she goes to.
And yes, great mares don't often produce great foals. |

Yeah, but they dont breed them to race them. Great Mares produce really good sales returns.. I can already see Makybe's offspring returning a record amount. Add in a decent sire with a good R/W strike rate, and its not going to be in anyone local's price range. She may have been passed in, but her foals will never be.. even if they all never see a race track. Having lots of dollars does not necessarily mean one is in possession of a great deal of sense. |
Oh the pessimists
...And I can remember the day well, had "Brew" written on one arm and "Yippyio" on the other. Was a dishpig at the time, and we all got called out to watch the race. When I worked out I'd got first and second I ripped my sleeves up - the only person there to win on the race, and everyone started eyeing me suspiciously and saying "who ARE you?" Most satisfying ever. Should have been Saintly but Victorian TAB was down that year, and as he loped in I was screaming "NO SAINTLY - NOOOOO!"
