In the George Main stakes in a field of 6 nominations we have

Lonhro
Sunline
Defier

also engaged is

Excellerator
Hey Pronto
Shogun Lodge

What a crackerjack field!

Now this is going to be an interesting race.

With such a small field it's all going to come down to tactics here.

TRACKWORK INFORMATION -

This is from last week...

"Super mare Sunline pleased in a special trial at Randwick today in preparation for next week's $350,000 George Main Stakes.
Ridden by regular race jockey Greg Childs, she worked out wide early and picked up another runner near the 800m to kick three lengths clear at the finish."

So I wouldn't be worried about fitness since her New Zealand first-up win on 24th August.

Just a question...does this mean it took her 800m to get three lengths ahead?

It may turn out to be an unexpected result?

I agree...this would have to be one of the most anticipated races in recent memory. With such a small field there will be no donkeys to get in the way and every horse should have their chance.

With the small field there will no doubt be a lack of pace, as you say EI, it will come down to a battle of tactics. Under those conditions it is extremely difficult to separate them. All three can run sensational time relative to a slow early pace. Even old Shogun Lodge at his very best can match it with them when the early pace is slow.

Sunline's best hope is if she leads and actually sets a genuine pace. She has shown greater overall speed ability than any of the others at this stage and the more solid the pace the more overall speed ability becomes important. However a slow pace results in a slower time and it comes down to pure turn of foot and sprinting ability over 600m or so. As I said, all three are oustanding and about equal in this area.

If I had to make a call this early on, I would be sticking with Sunline. A world class 1600m horse who has the runs on the board. Most importantly, with the hype of the other two horses she is likely to start at a price we haven't seen for a number of years.

Couldn't agree more especially about the price on offer and the possibility of a boil over with old shogun lodge. I can see Sunline trying to run them off their feet in the middle stages closely followed by Lonhro with Defier running over the top of them.

There is no doubt that Sunline is the superior horse, but will the tactics and pace suit?

TAB Fixed Odds betting on the George Main Stakes is now available whilst markets for Caulfield Guineas and Thousand Guineas are scheduled to open shortly. The George Main Stakes will be run this Saturday at Randwick over 1600m and has attracted a small but highly elite field. The top three in betting are Lonhro $2.25, Sunline $2.65 and Defier $4.25.

Who said Christmas comes but once a year?

If its 1600m beyond i have doubt about
Sunline but this is her world best distance
i don't think any runners have a chance to
run her down either Lonro or Defier may be
Shongun will cames close to her in the last
50m from behind but i still strongly think
she will take out this race by 2 lengths the
mininum, and it would be agood opporunity to
bet her because her prices will be much higher than usual.Sunline will only lose if
its a fall or late scrating.
cheers!
