System
1. DISTANCE
Only consider Sydney races of 1200 metres or less. 2. PREPOST MARKET Only consider the first four runners in the prepost market. 3. Eliminate runners who do not satisfy the following conditions: A. LAST START FINISH POSITION or BEATEN MARGIN At most recent start finished no worse than 4th unless no more than 4 lengths from winner. B. DAYS SINCE Last start was no less than 10 days ago and no more than 24 days ago unless it is first up from a spell. C. JOCKEY Must be ridden by a top 10 rider (see published lists in your form guide). D. WEIGHT Either carrying the same weight or no more than 2.5Kg more than its last start. E. AGE It must be aged 3 years or more. F. RUNS THIS PREPARATION It must not have raced more than twice in the last month. G TAB NUMBER If there is one horse remaining it becomes the final selection. If there is more than one horse remaining the lowest TAB number becomes the final selection. |

The only adjustments I'd make is 3yrs to 5yrs rather than just over 3yrs. Past 5yrs horses don't generally sprint as well as they did as 3 to 5yr olds [just like us]. "One of the top 5 jockies for the track" [see grandracing and sports], so the system could be used anywhere and I'd shorten the days since last start to 21 days. Finish position is a hard one. I know punters point out lengths from the winner is more important that finish position, but there are so many slowly run races nowadays and they naturally produce a lot of blanket finishes. 4 lengths from the winner could easily be the last horse home. No worse than 4th. in a similar prize-money [or more] race sounds like a more reliable rule overall. |
