Database help

I need some help in setting up a database of past results. What info should i entered and how do i get it to search once theres enough info.

At the moment, the only database program I have is the one in MSWorks. Somehow, i don't think it will do the job.

Any assitance is most welcome.

Best Database to use : Oracle XE

Easiest Database to use : Microsoft Access.

Good Luck.

Benny, enter as much information as you can possibly obtain. What you dont deem as being important now might not be the case in 12 months time, and depending how you do it, it shouldnt be any harder.

IMO you will need either Oracle or MySQL, either will do, and both very similar anyway. But, you will need to familiarise youself with SQL, and PHP if you want to make the job of manipulating/displaying the data much easier.

But if you dont know anything about programming you face an uphill battle, good luck.

I read somewhere on the internet that it might be possible to do the same thing with excel, but i'm not sure.

You could do it with a pen and paper too :)

Please dont use Excel. Where do you plan to get the raw data from? Are you going to do it on a day by day basis, or write a program to go back and scrape it off the web?

If you use Excel keep in mind that you can only have 65,000 rows per sheet and believe me 65000 horses is not much data.

You would enter about 15000 per month which would only give you about 4 months worth of data per sheet.

Good Luck.

umm...hey Wesmip1...

...I suspect Benny, the Mad Gambler, may have just pooped himself at the sight of your "most basic database."
