Betfair in running betting AU races today

Thought someone would have posted this already

"For the first time this Saturday, Australian punters will be able to bet after the jump in all Group races, right up to the winning post. And unlike betting in-play on sports, which requires you to place bets strictly over the phone, in-running betting on horseracing enables you to place bets online as you normally would on Betfair. This means you can have your orders ready and bet at the click of a button"

Not quite. With Betfair's in-play betting they have what is called an "in-play delay". Its a couple of seconds delay between you submitting a new bet and it actually going into the system. There is no delay for someone cancelling an existing bet in the market. The reason for this is to allow time for people to cancel existing orders in the market if something bizarre happens.

E.g you could have money to lay on a horse who is running last. Then suddenly the leader falls and brings everyone else down except your horse. Thousands of punters could try to jump on and snap up your lay for a "guaranteed win" but you get the chance to cancel it first. But you gotta be watching! :)

Yes CB, that is all well and good, but it doesn't alter the fact that if your connection is faster than mine, or if you have access to a quicker view of the action than me (eg: you could live in a house overlooking the race course or some such) then you are at a distinct advantage.
We'll see how it goes.
