Think it was lucky to get as close as it did to Northerly. Payne whipped the champ 5 times for the race while Defier got whipped 5 times in the last 100m. Just goes to prove how easy Northerly beat everyone else in the race

Perhaps Northerly just resents being whipped too much. All horses have their quirks.

jj, Defier is clearly one of the best gallopers going around now. He had a great Spring.
