All up a Place System ?
 

DarkieDog has got me thinking. He has over six hundred systems and has been good enough to put the non performers up for us.

I have to thank him for that. ( just stirring ) But he did say to me in a recent thread that his favourite comfort zone is in the Multiples. Now, I used to bet the multiples first mainly the treble and then three horses all up a place.

Now, because I am happy enough with my main system, its at least paying its own way, but I doubt it will get me to Nirvana.

Because it is a value based system it appears to go against a few guys on here who I have a healthy respect for. So I thought that maybe I could try to formulate a Multi Place system.

The advantage is I will be able to follow more closely what the guns on here are doing because system 1 breaks a lot of rules that they would shudder at. However in Multi place betting I do not have the emotional hang up of operating at the pointy end.

I guess Darkie was talking about Multiple selections in his multis but my system will be for a place all up and I will concentrate on one selection in each race.

Now, this is where you guys come in. I would normally use three races as the all up for a normal bet, however for a system bet taking into account a reduction in run of outs I was thinking about a two race place all up. Calling it one bet would be easy to record and build some data from it. Small returns might be ok with this, because I would hopefully get more hits and have a live horse going into the money leg quire regularly.

The question is regularly enough.

What is a good starting point and where are the downs of this approach.

I posted this in the most fav tips thread and it was a breif rundown of a former members staking plan. Quote "No i don't sell racing systems , and yes i have made $13,000 in 1 year on place betting where the avg div was $1.30 , although i must add something that i did not to my earlier post and that is i used 4 staking plans in which i started with $200 for each plan , therefore i started with $800.
In the past year i had 163 place bets which on avg is about 3 bets per week , and 142 were placed an avg of %87.There were also 82 winners at %50.3.The longest losing run was just 2 bets.
With each bank i started with $200 and bet $50 on each selection (%25 of bank) as soon as it reached $400 i increased the bet to $80 (%20 of bank) when it reached $800 i increased the bet to $100 (%12.5 of bank).
The staking plans are simple the first one is just simple place betting on each horse one after another.The 2nd is just an all-up on every 2 selections.The 3rd is just an all-up on every 3 selections.The 4th is another doubles plan such as the 2nd plan but the 2nd leg of the 1st double also becomes the 1st leg of the 2nd double.The 2nd leg of the 2nd double becomes the ist leg of the 3rd double and so on.
So as you can see using simple staking plans and a good selection process you can successfully make quite a good profit on place betting. Unquote"

Yes .I like to have at least 5 horses in a race and generally will end up betting a average of 3 of them .The ones I disregard are under my acceptable price.
The best of the races I bet on are posted on my daily thread.

Re Allup Place betting I believe Partypooper is quite successful with these.

I havee a greyhound place method that hits 82%....the prohibative issue I have is the place dividends themselves...

I'd need a four leg+ all up bet to make a decent return, I aveager 5 selections a day, but I'm sure I'd be let down by at least selection if I went a 4 or 5 leg multi. with IAS you can use trixie, yank bets etc...but these are expensive...especially if no collects.

Anyone else had any experience with the exotic all up bet types (Trixie, Yank etc)??

If you can get an 82% SR a place on the greyhounds you'd be a bigger stud than me.

Form goes out the door when the money goes on and that is only in the last minutes before the race.

A class dog who doesn't run wide from Box 1 with a couple of tardy beginners on it's outside would give you a head start ..... 4 placings out of 5 is not an unreasonable target at the dogs !!

It's funny you talk about the emotional hang up of operating at the pointy end. A mate of mine won't back anything under $8's and says favs are for sissys. I suggest to him the long run of outs he experiences effectively reduces his returns to the pointy end anyway and gives him heartburn as well . His hang up is he just likes to be right when the majority couldn't figure his horse as the winner. It's more important for him to gloat "I can't believe you guys didn't have that!"

Just re-read my last post. It wasn't to suggest Star targets higher odds for this reason. It was to convey we each have different triggers to satisfy with our betting pursuits.:)

I notice on Betfair you can bet SP place betting on major meetings but there is no SP place betting on minor meetings (eg today at Toowoomba).

Am I reading this right...?
