Can any one give me your opinions of this idea.
picking say 6 horses resumeing from a spell and following them for that campaigne or maybe untill they win or something....then maybe dropping them and finding a new one to replace it....do you think this could be profitable

Shaun, this is something I have toyed with with good success, I think following horses as they progress throught the grades and from country to city etc. can produce winners with really good prices. It is not a straight forward process.

I think if you select your horses and maybe sticking with the top stables.....and go with the young horses it could be worth while

A very good idea, but my advice is to have some strict filters for elimination.

E.G. if the horse is beaten by more than 3 lengths at any start discard it.

Just a rough example...otherwise you'll be following horses which cost you bet after bet.

I would wait until the horse wins and then follow it for three starts backing eachway unless it has a very good first up record.

I would also look at the type of horses sprinters, middle distance, long distance and concentrate on one type.

It has merit if you're prepared to follow the good and throw out the bad and replace with something else very quickly, otherwise you'll just be hoping to fluke a win at bolters odds.

On the back page of the WIZARD under TALKING TIMES they have a stable of runners to follow (updated each week).
As good a place to start any any.
Cheers.

Well i started today...i noticed that Peter Moody had a horse in today that was haveing it's 4th run i checked and noticed it had been beaten by casual pass by 4.4 lenghts and we all know what casual pass did last time in it was a good win today so i might follow this one

hi shaun
hope this helps/gives you something to think about find the best race of the day at any meeting for the day possibly a cup race? then find the favourite in the race eg pp fav at jump or newspaper fav etc then if the horse wins drop it as possibly no value in future races or if it places or runs knowhere find out if there was a reason for that loss eg reason jockey change etc

Got this from a book on punting years ago:

FIVE YEAR OLD SYSTEM:

Races 1600m and beyond.
When a top 5 year old who was well up in the weights on going out for a
spell, resumes again, providing it is starting over its "true" distance,
start backing it from and including its third start back. Follow it up to
three times. It often churns out good divvies, especially during Spring and
Autumn.
