Race #6, Geelong: A factor I have always considered in American horseracing handicapping is a horse who "fires off a layoff", meaning one who has run well in the past from a break. Barrier trials (which we call workouts) notwithstanding, Evasion looked that sort, having run a 93 Oz first out ever. Needless to say, I backed him tonight, and was rewarded at 7-1, and a $31 USD quinella in a short field. Not bad. Haven't seen the "fires after a layoff"
tactic mentioned here, but I am new to this forum. It seems to work about 50% of the time in the U.S, of course that is mostly racing on the dirt. Have a good one.

Can you explain your meaning as I looked at Evasion and it has had 1 start from a spell and unplaced.
Maybe I am misunderstanding your meaning???

I assume that although Evasion was unplaced at it's first start, it did come 4th and it was probably a high rating run on the ratings that Glenn uses.

Yeah I see what you mean and what a **************** I am the ************ thing has never had a spell, just had been running around with it's Mum.
