There's no need to go through ALL 17 pages of the "Barrier System" thread. I'll try to outline all the rules for you here and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
THE OUTSIDE BARRIER SPECIALS (1) Qld, NSW, Vic and SA meetings each day. (only metrop meetings on Saturdays) (2) No 2yo or jumps races. (3) No races less than 1200m. (4) At least 8 starters after scratchings. (5) Consider only the clear pre-post favourite, providing it is between $3.00 and $4.00. (6) Must be starting from the outside barrier. (7) Must have had at least 3 starts since a spell. (8) Must have finished in the first 4 at each of it's last 3 starts. RESULTS (since Nov20) Selections 37 Wins 14, Win return $61.70, Win profit 67% Places 31, Place return $52.90, Place profit 43% All you need is a daily newspaper form guide. I use the Courier Mail. Ignore 2yos, jumps, races less than 1200m and races with less than 8 starters. In the remaining races, you consider only the favourite. It must be between $3.00 and $4.00 and it must be the clear favourite. No equal favs allowed. Now, it must be starting from the outside barrier after scratchings. It also must have had at least 3 starts since a spell and it must have finished in the first 4 at each of it's last 3 starts. The rules are strict and you don't get many bets, but it seems to do okay. [ This Message was edited by: sportznut on 2004-04-20 15:37 ] |
Thanks sportznut. I appreciate the rules you've re-posted for me. I've just printed them out. As I live in Newcastle, I think the Courier Mail is out of the question. I think I read in one of the posts that someone found the form in the Sydney Herald to be similar to the Courier Mail so I'll give that a go on Saturday. I may also try it out with one or two other papers.
Thanks again. |
The only problem with the Outside Barrier System is that it doesn't have a lot of bets. There has only been 37 bets in 5 months and that's betting 7 days a week.
You can use any paper you want. You may end up with different selections on occasions, but it would probably even out in the end. Unfortunately, some papers leave out pre-post prices for some meetings, so I think you should also have a look at the WA Tabform site. It has pre-post odds for ALL meetings and they are usually the same prices that you find in most newspapers. http://www.tabform.thewest.com.au/j.../TFFrameset.jsp [ This Message was edited by: sportznut on 2004-04-20 21:07 ] |
Thanks sportznut.
I've just checked out the WA Tabform site and have signed up as a member. That site should prove very useful. Thanks again. |
Yeah, it's very handy. The pre-post prices are often on there the day before the meetings are run. If not, then usually early in the morning.

Why no races less than 1200m?
|
Outside barrier in a 1000m. Sprint [except at Flemington]. ??? At 1200m. the horse has a chance and a good one. 1000m.[or even 1100m.] is a different kettle of fish. Cheers. PS. Keep up the good work/fight Sport. The fewer the bets a system has the greater the S/R [bigger bets with this system would be the go and plenty of $2 in-between bets solve the 'action' problem]. Thanks Crash,
I also find the form in races shorter than 1200m to be less reliable and a lot of the races are won by horses 1st up, so that doesn't really suit this system. [ This Message was edited by: sportznut on 2004-05-08 07:19 ] |
