The denials do not evoke comment anymore.(except from bitter twisted people like me.)I'll get stuck into God,the Easter Bunny & Father Christmas next!!!

Constant bad decisions, repeated errors of judgement by the dodgy brothers, treated lightly by people who are "in the know" & are making big money from this conspiracy.
Maybe a year off to meditate with some religious order is needed. Then back into it like Tom Cruise.( not too explicit I hope?).

Not exactly what you are commenting on Que; but I wonder does anyone know what action is taken when a saddle 'shifts'. It happenened to two favourites I was on in the last week or so --- and possibly on more occasions, I certainly don't listen to all races. Down the drain goes my hard-earned.

And yesterday another jockey on a favourite 'lost his irons'.

Am not suggesting these things were the jockey's fault in any of those cases --- but they must be someone's fault surely? The punting game is hard enough as it is without things which presumably can be avoided are not.

Merriguy, You should read Berts (of ****************************** fame )expose of the tricks of the trade to slow a horse down.A real eye opener & undetectable.Wish we had a stable boy in the family.

" He took charge of me sir" is the one I love. It happened to one poor experienced jockey 4 times in 6 months in Group One races a couple of years ago. Now he gets caught in traffic jams of his own making - must be riding different types of horses these days.

A large drink of water before parading often weighs heavily on a horse. Can't deny the poor animal a drink can you?

Then of course the ultimate way to get your horse beaten and look like you are trying is to be 4th or worse on the corner at Caulfield.

Probably like most of the business in this country.
Poor staff ,lack of attention to detail, bad manners, and I am not talking just of the racing industry either though they need a swift kick up the axxx.
Cheers.

Merriguy has touched on the topic that really gets up my nose - the saddle shift. I have asked about this before & it seems that no-one is held accountable when this happens.
I know that horses can (& do) suck in air & then hold it while the straps are being tightened - then when they exhale the straps are a bit looser. But surely an experienced horseman could tell if this has happened by the time they have reached the barrier - the horse can't hold its breath for that long!!

Anyway, if those who have contributed to this thread still have a punt, I guess that is more damning of us than those who are suspected of pulling swifties.

There's merit in what you say B.B. ,but if you consider races on a purely statistical basis & arrange your staking plan to allow for accidents ,mistakes!!, etc, there is still money to be made.(More money by selling systems I suspect.)Avoid Sydney Metro races,& those involving ...

Now now QUE.Lazza had a great record for always winning the last in Sydney.I made money for a long time on that.
Hmm.Wonder if he still does.

Que? 16th May 2004 06:42 AM

Maybe we should be looking for such patterns, Darky? Lazza always being given the last in Sydney, a certain trainer getting the seventh.Lets invite the boys in Maitland Gaol to give us a few pointers.
