I was just reading that Ambulance and Strafed were both sold to Hong Kong further depleting the ranks here in Australia. At this rate Australias racing will be in Hong Kong I don't know about anyone else but it is getting annoying.

Couple that with the fact that both Pay Keys and Fastnet Rock have also been sold to Hong Kong and we are losing alot of young talent to the Hong Kong market.

Sure I know the money is so much better over there but you look at a horse like Fastent Rock who was a very promising horse but really hadn't proven much yet other than he can run a place in some good races. All of a sudden he is sold and you would have to wonder how much for they paid something like 1.5 mil for the horse as a yearling.

As far as I am concerned we can't really complain that races lack depth the reason is the depth has moved overseas both our above average and our top liners are disappearing quicker than they can be replaced.

Agree 100%. It's very annoying!

The main problem here to many races and not enough proze money if you look at the races over there they don't have a lot of horses we just have to many...there is no reason why we need 10 race meeting on a saturday in every 1 horse town we need to get back to the days of good city class races on the week end and good provincial class races on the weekdays

Let's face it. The non hobby owners of racehorses couldn't give the proverbial two hoots about punters. They are in it to make money. BIG MONEY. Racing is all about big money, not providing punters with entertainment. Surely us punters should realise that? If an owner can sell a horse for millions that hasn't proven itself all the better. They are laughing. Why continue racing it here, risk it flopping and then missing out on those millions? As for punters who might want to see it race and back it here in future - tough.

The fact that there are '10 race meetings'programmed means that there are owners paying good $$ to have their horses trained & therefore entitled to race them. I believe many are getting ballotted week after week in Q/land thru' the loss of a multitude of non-tab meetings. Probably a bit off topic but struck a nerve!!

from a punting and racing fans point of view it is very frustrating. Also the big studs buying stars like exceed and excel and reset, choisir etc. From the owners point of view - well done. They got a million for drunken joker so fastnet rock must have gone for a lot.

Beleive me I don't really knock the owners for taking the money you would be crazy not to. But imagine a world with more owners the likes of a Paul Makin he has his millions as alot of these owners do all he wants is the thrill of winning he has been a breath of fresh air in that light and atleast we all know Starcraft aint going to stud anytime real soon.

I mean seriously are you going to try and tell me Lloyd Williams needed the money he got for Reset ofcourse he didn't that is what irks me a little they already have more money than they could spend in 6 lifetimes.

Shaun 22nd June 2004 09:31 PM

i don't blame the owners for takeing that cash....90% of owners will never make maoney from racing thier horses

Mr. Logic 23rd June 2004 08:04 AM

The big, rich owners are not in racing to provide entertainment for punters. They are in it for money. (Sure, you would expect them to get enjoyment and thrills along the way. Maybe some don't - it's purely business.)

They increase their wealth by making hard nosed business decisions. Reset was not a family pet but a business asset. All assets have their price.
