new year comp idea
okay sportz,heres my idea!
one selected meeting eg syd(rosehill) for the day.each person selects one horse only per race.points are allocated for final result position eg 8 points 1st 5 points 2nd 3 for 3rd and 1 for fourth.(all dead heats are still allocated finishing position,ie if you dead heat for 3rd u still get 3 pts).SCRATCHINGS!! i here u say, well in a 8 horse program u only count your top six results, everyone gets a chance to have a stuffup and also a breather from scratchings. also follows on, a 9 horse field must take 7 and a 10 gee-geer must take 8. NOW FOR THE LITTLE TWIST! everyone gets to select one special. all points are doubled for a special if it runs into the points category. eg u selected a special that ran 2nd u now get 10 not 5 points. NOW FOR THE COMP. well at the moment i see u do things monthly in the comps.so every week will be a round.points will be allocated for where you finish in that round eg 1st-recieves 30pts 2nd-22pts 3rd-19 4th-16 5th-14 6th-11 7th-9 8th-7 9th-5 10th-3 and 11th-1.these will be added up over the comp and the one that has the most wins. like a v8 supercar series. could probably throw in 2nd or 3rd round as everyone picks there selection with 2 others and a bonus point to overall ladder if quinella is picked. anyway thats my idea any feedback apprec. Drunken joker was just that on the weekend wasnt he! |
Yeah, thanks Phipsy. I've thought about doing something like that. At the moment, I guess what we really have is a 'betting' comp instead of a 'tipping' comp, so I think we could certainly change things a bit in 2005.
While there's plenty of merit in your idea, I wouldn't want to get rid of the betting side of things altogether. I mean, if someone's good enough to tip a $30 winner, they should still be rewarded in some way, even if they don't tip any other winners all day. So this is what I think we could do. I think we could run two comps side by side, one to find the most consistent tipster and the other to find the most profitable. I'll certainly be looking at this idea over the next few weeks. |
I agree w/ Sportz
I like the point and special concept, but i won the last REAL comp mainly through picking 2 huge outsiders, i.e Hugs Dancer @ $28.50 and Sky Cuddle @ $37.50. But how does this come take into account outsiders? (i may have missed something) Because if it is on points not odds, then nothing stops everyone from picking $1.10 winners and getting the same points as a $100 winner. Get my point? |
