Gambling Tips.(do's and dont's)

Starting this one off to get myself into a winning routine.
I don't seem to do too much right, but I certainly do a lot of things wrong.
And one by one I will give examples of things not to do.

Last night I noticed that as my losing run was building,so was my stress and agitation and annoyance and anger.
And quite possibly that was contributing to my poor form analysis and poor staking system.
Which built my discomfort which built mu\y losing run...etc.

So the rule for today is
DON'T BET WHEN YOU ARE EXPERIENCING A LOSING RUN AND FEELING BAD!

What you do instead is continue selecting, but just don't lodge your betting slip.
When you observe that your selections are running about where you thought they would, get back into it.
I call this rule "RIDING OUT THE STORM".

only back 1 sport at a time, Dont get too excited.

No multis

dont let greed get the best of you

always think every bet could be a losing bet=reality check

dont open an online account- i regret this, cuz i could bet anytime and when i had nothing to do i used to back horses since i had sky racing. TAB at home.

Do's

Do something useful with your winnings like enjoy the money rather than using it to gamble.

Hi moeee,

I cannot agree more!

The psychology of a losing run can be one's demise, it leads to poor judgement as well which makes the whole thing snowball.

The only exception might be if you have one or two bets left for the day using an otherwise profitable system. But I would not be increasing my bet to cover losses.

I totally agree with this. I did this two weeks ago, after making heaps of money I eventually lost a bet...then another..then another until my balance was inevitably $0.00. Next time I will wait a few days before betting again.

I disagree with this. While it sounds fair I think if you don't have the self-discipline to not bet you shouldn't gamble whatsoever. If I didn't have online account I probably wouldn't bother.

Try this...IF you are compelled to have a bet, have seperate and distinct accounts. One account is for the serious stuff, the other for when you have nothing better to do......

The other suggestion is to use your idle time to make money rather than lose it. Put your Sky to good use. Instead of backing the horses you don't know much about, get a notepad and record the unlucky runs, the bad rides, the fast finishers, the rogue barrier horses, the horses that look like they've had enough etc etc.

Then when they next run, you're more informed and more likely to make money.

There are several blackbook services on the net that will auto alert you to an upcoming run.

well mine is "not sticking to the system"
today my little system picked the winner at ascot, race 4. and i didn't bet on it.

There was an often played commercial by the TAB or someone, where it said

"IF IT'S NO LONGER FUN,WALK AWAY"

Trouble is I need to be dragged away, and still I'll be kicking and screaming.

I like some of your comments thefan.

DON'T EVER play the pokies, I did this afternoon with a mate. What a way to waste a couple of hundred bucks.

Not happy Jan.

 Mad at myself for letting my mate tempt me. I swore off the stupid frigging things quite a while ago. I don't blame my mate only myself for being an idiiot.

The Whitlams say it best, "Blow up the pokies".

I have no sympathy for people who lose money on the pokies.

It doesn't take a genius to realise you won't win.

At least you've learnt your lesson now, Jack Daniels, albeit the hard way.

On a personal note.

Jack Daniels, DO NOT BET ON NBA GAMES!

It is so frustrating, when I do so much research on the teams, looking at their form and checking different odds on different bookie sites etc and the $1.10 favourites get beaten by $5 and $6 outsiders.

Luckily they weren't huge bets, but it is frustrating none the less.

I recommend steering clear of the NBA!
