FEBRUARY TIPPING COMP (Feb26)
COMPETITION RULES:
$150 to bet with each week. $100 in win/each way bets, a $30 trifecta and a $20 all-up bet. Of course, all tips to be posted prior to the jump time of your first race. In the case of scratchings, it would be desirable if you could make changes, especially for the trifecta part of the comp. If that's not possible however, your scratched horses will simply be taken out and that money refunded. WIN / EACH-WAY BETTING: ($100) No restriction at all on the number of selections per race or the amount bet on any race, as long as your bets add up to $100. However, you can only bet the following amounts: $5 win, $10 win, $20 win, $30 win, $40 win, $50 win $5 e-w, $10 e-w, $15 e-w, $20 e-w, $25 e-w TRIFECTA BETTING: ($30) Everyone to pick out one trifecta each week. It can be on any race. It will be a 1/2 unit trifecta and there are 4 options you can choose: Option 1: A 5 horse 'box' trifecta (If any 3 of your 5 horses finish in the placings in any order, you win) Option 2: A 3/6/6 trifecta (3 horses to win, and those 3 plus another 3 for the 2nd and 3rd placings) Option 3: A 2/7/7 trifecta (2 horses to win, and those 2 plus another 5 for the 2nd and 3rd placings) Option 4: A Roving Banker with 5 others (Your 'banker' MUST finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd, and any 2 of the other 5 to fill the other placings) Please set out very clearly which option you want to use and which horses you want for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. ALL-UP BETTING: ($20) Everyone to pick out a $20 all-up bet at one of the venues each week. You can have 2, 3 or 4 races and you are allowed to pick each selection for a win OR for a place. Of course, normal place betting rules apply. If your horse runs 3rd in a field of 7 and there's no 3rd div, then that's counted as a loss. Also, please specify if you want any or all of your selections for a place, because if not, I'll just assume you're picking them to win. Thinking of cutting back and having a MUCH simpler version of the tipping comp after this week. As Chuck suggested, with the Group 1 comp, the Ratings challenge and the Lays of the day running at the same time, it is just a bit too much. And it's a fair bit of work for me too.

Thanks for what you are doing here Sportz, it is appreciated.
Have you tried the Daily Challange on Racing and Sports. It wiould give you an opportunity to partipate without also doing all the work. I enter as Pembroke and find it great for testing my neural settings. Kiwi |
Yeah, I've played that a few times and gone okay, but most of the time I forget until there's already been a few races run and it's too late.

You could share the load Sportz....i don't mind doing the totals after the Sat races here and there and there's plenty of us here who could volunteer and help out..
You do a great job...and filling in for Patty who doesnt seem to be around anymore is more than appreciated.. |
My main prob is getting the track conditions and scratchings.
We are two hours ahead ( three during daylight saving) of Auzzie in NZ and we are well into the working day by the time they are posted.Depending on my shift i can get them or have to enter the previous day. Hope you can participate more as your selections are well thought out and would set a high standard of competition. It is quite difficult having to pick the winner in one when there are sometimes two or three good chances but it sharpens up your skills. KIwi |
No, it's alright Mav. I'll manage. :)
It's just that I think it's probably a good idea if we go back to the simple version of straight forward Win betting instead of the All-ups and Trifectas. It was certainly good for an experiment, but keeping it to Win betting makes it much easier for all. |

Yeah, I hardly ever back just one horse in a race. Believe it or not, I got a $124 winner today. Never would have even considered putting it on if I had restricted myself to just one (or two) horses in the race. |
Gotcha.Agree, stick to the win bets.
A question, what reasoning did you use to make Pleasure Ground a top rated bet at Rosehill? Kiwi |
Can't take all the credit for that one. There are some Trackwork horses to follow that I get emailed to me and I blackbook them. It was one of them. I looked at the form and thought it was definitely up to the standard. Also it had one first-up run for one win, so that's why I had it on top. Nice result. Did you back it?
