down down down
yesterday one of my old specials came up.
sometime ago i was mentioning horses coming down in distance being a good chance. scenic wells came up on the tote at $18 paid $12 due to larry olson blowing it. coming back from 2020 metres to 1600 missed the start by 5lengths got a miraculous rails run for about 400 metres and got up. strange thing. i've seen horses with nothing in their way get blocked for a run but when they are going there seems to be no stopping them. |

Hmmm, interesting. Normally I would consider a drop of 420m a bit of a negative thing unless the shorter distance is the horse's best distance. |

Yep a little 'outside the square' system you've mentioned many a time topys99 & you're obviously still reaping the rewards. Goodonya! |

There are many examples, and I'm not saying you would see it every meeting, of a horse being raced at a distance far too long for it just so that it can post a genuine 8,9 or 0 alongside the name and a big beaten margin. Next start back to a more suitable distance, not even necessarily his pet distance, and a much better price is available and he often gets the bikkies. I suspect the trainer would justify it by saying the longer race was part of the conditioning process (only after the win of course). Regards |
