I am a keen JSheehan fan, I believe in his riding ability and potential but what I don't understand is that I don't see him ride in any of the big races in Aus. Why is that, can someone clear/explain.

I guess your opinion of him is not held by the owners and trainers of the horses in those big races

He is'nt closely aligned with a leading stable. But really it is his weight. He does'nt get many rides because of it and therefore even if a horse gets a reasonable weight, that would mean it is a pretty good horse and probably already had a regular jock.

It is a shame because I also believe he is a top jockey.

Can anyone tell me why jockeys have to be so abnormally light. Was it something started way back in the dark ages and they just won't change. What would the problem be if all jockeys were 60-65kgs.
Horses might run a bit slower but where's the problem with that.

The abnormal diets they must endure is ridiculous.

The same question applies to why do they train horses at abnormally early hours of the morning.

Just some thoughts.
