Bounding Away Emancipation Schillaci Subzero any more? [ This Message was edited by: Equine Investor on 2002-06-13 10:19 ] |
Surround, Ming Dynasty, Gunsynd, Raffindale, Silver Bounty, Taksan, Subzero, Grey Sapphire, Grey Receiver
|
Grey Sapphire...brings back memories. I owned a handy young horse in the 70's and we took it to Camperdown in western Victoria one day for a 2 year old "country classic" type 1200m race. We thought our horse was a certainty. Unfortunately, Grey Sapphire was in the race.
We finished 2nd....8 lengths away! |
Grey Sapphire was from the same crop as Manikato, Karaman, The Judge, Hauberk etc.
He found it a bit hard to shine against that lot but later on in his career he won some really good races with big weights. |
You don't see many grey trotters.
|
Great (or very good) greys?
Plush, Savoir, Baghdad Note. Savoir was unlucky to be running around at the same time as a brilliant grey mentioned above, Surround. But Savoir still managed to win a Thousand Guineas and a Wakeful Stakes in the Spring of 1976 amongst her victories. Was Horlicks a grey? |
Horlicks sure was a grey and won a MacKinnon and Japan Cup!
17 Wins from 40 starts...quite handy. [ This Message was edited by: Equine Investor on 2002-06-13 23:29 ] |
Was Bernborough a grey? I thought he was, but he was before my time.
Tulloch was a great grey - that is after you threw grey paint all over him!!! |
Just remembered a few others,
Martello Towers, Rom's Stiletto, John's Hope, Grey Affair, Black Onyx, Ugly Dave Grey. |
I think Bernborough was a bay.
Only 3 greys have won Melbourne Cup in past 30 years or so. Two have already been mentioned - Subzero 92 & Bagdad Note 70, the other was Silver Knight in 71. _________________ All the best from the West Sandgroper  [ This Message was edited by: Sandgroper on 2002-06-14 15:50 ] |
