Doomben Races Tomorrow....
Hi all,
It looks like a pretty good card tomorrow at Doomben, although the field sizes are down on what they normally are. The qulity is still there though, and should provide good support to the southern meetings. Weather has been fine here, allbeit a little cloudy, so we should be up for a good track.
Race 1 - Maybe Ancient King can go alright here. Most likely wasn't suited by the wet track last time but back on top of the ground and with the step up in journey, i think he can go close. Nice that Byrne has stuck too. Tackman is not a horse i can pick on his right day, but is the obvious pick on the back of a very good run last time. Great hope. Colonial Lass was a great win last time but was probably flattered by the wet track. That being said, you should never knock a horse in form and she can go well again tomorrow.
Race 2 - Good race here, though its a little small. I like A Little Naughty. She is a speedy mare and i think from the good alley she can go straight to the lead and give them something to catch. The win over this distance 2 back at this course was great and if she repeats that run, watch out. Power and Gold was a good effort to win 2nd up and can win again if they pour the speed on and A Little Naughty doesn't get things her own way. Zoe's Lad running home late for 3rd, this isn't his track.
Race 3 - Like Cold Start here. He'll lead and i think he should win. Back to the staying journey and back against the usual suspects, i can see him controlling and winning. Imperialism is turing into a non-winner and i have grave concerns about his ability to get the trip....but he has more raw talent than the balance of this field and should be included on that fact alone. Adavale Hornet for 3rd.
Race 4 - I like Van Rooyen. His 1st up win last prep was great and apparently they backed him up too quickly which might explain the 2nd up failure. He is first up here, over the same trip he won over, so i think he can win. Byrne from the good alley is just icing on the cake. Tender Truce is unbeaten but has an enormous task here. Wide alley from the 1000m and 58kgs. Has loads of talent, but i think it'll be too hard tomorrow. The Chanster will lead and can give a good show out in front at decent odds too.
Race 5 - Pretty ordinary bunch here. Maybe Classic Alibi, Special Package and Seducation.
Race 6 - Sea Zulu a special. If they get him to the outside (which they will), he will sail past these, even with the weight. There isn't much upside to his opposition here, and going on the last run he has a very nice turn of foot when he is in the clear. Given that, he'll do me. Mr Doyle and Jay Dee Rocks for the placings after good recent runs.
Race 7 - Piccohi can go forward from his wide alley and can sit right on them and win i think. He will derive plenty of benefit from the 2 runs back from a spell, and in this field, he looks well placed. Yubi will probably lead and can stick on well if they leave him alone. Looks overs in the paper ($15)...don 't know whether you'll see that tomorrow. Mr Sequential was a good win 1st up, but 4 goes 2nd up for nothing is a concern. Besides, he isnt exactly the most reliable horse going around.
Race 8 - Giacometti to get to the lead and win. Doesn't look to be too much speed here and on the back of a good 1200m at EF 2 runs back, i think she can win this one. Shilo will be well in commission and with good reason. He has loads of talent, but has just struck conditions that don't suit on many occasions. Still has Pannell to contend with, but is a chance nonetheless. Centenn was a tough effort last time and so might be able to stick on tomorrow.
Good luck with whatever you fancy
Sven
