dropping in distance at a route is always gonna help next out at shorter distances. but they have to get something out of it. thats why i tend to go with horses more up on the pace.
coming from way off the pace is a judgement call to see if he did get something out of it. because quick fractions will help closers but wont always help his cause next out if it was an easy run. but if he was closing from way out against slow fractions then he will no doubt get something out of it.
