Gold Coast based trainer Mark Sims has finally been rewarded with his first ever black-type race winner with Lesmartre taking out the Gai Waterhouse Classic at Ipswich yesterday. A $30K purchase Lesmartre has now taken her prizemoney past $130K. Sims will see how Lesmartre recovers before deciding whether to tackle the $500K Winter Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm next Saturday.
