"A clamp used to fasten television equipment to the barrier stalls is believed to be responsible for the injury that caused the late scratching of Caulfield Cup favourite Maldivian at Flemington yesterday. Chief steward Des Gleeson says he has taken possession of the clamp, found with traces of blood on it.
Maldivian suffered a gash on his neck when he reared up in the stalls. His antics caused the second favourite in the race, Eskimo Queen, to become distressed and collapse under the stalls.
Meanwhile jockey Glen Boss has been suspended for 13 meetings for causing interference soon after the start of the race. Stewards found that Boss, who rode third placegetter Princess Coup, had hampered Tawqeet and Black Tom, which almost fell soon after the start."
