Either he's having a lend of you, or has confused the win divvy with the place divvy.
120% Place POT over 12 years is statistically impossible to achieve even with just 5 bets a week.
Even with a starting bank of his first $20.00, he would be the richest man in the world after 12 years.
I'm not trying to be negative, but most definitely wires are crossed somewhere, it is possible that his ROI is 120%, but no way can his POT be 120%.
If the figures are correct, then it's highly likely that he is using a loss chasing strategy and has just been lucky that his largest bet landed. I would urge caution if that's the case, as he's not giving you the whole picture.
The only possible way is if he is using some accumulator place method, and reporting the odds of groups of place bets, rather than the individual - which is highly misleading.
