Just a small twist on Equine Investor's idea.
When you have narrowed your selections down to say 4 runners and you are going to box them, if you are absolutely sure on the credentials of one of them, you could rove it through the other three and it would help save some money.
Murphy's law states that now and then the other three not roving will score though and you wonder why you did it!
Example.
Box 4 at 50c = $12
One standout rover (whatever terminology you wish to apply) plus three other selections = $9.
