Merriguy has touched on the topic that really gets up my nose - the saddle shift. I have asked about this before & it seems that no-one is held accountable when this happens.
I know that horses can (& do) suck in air & then hold it while the straps are being tightened - then when they exhale the straps are a bit looser. But surely an experienced horseman could tell if this has happened by the time they have reached the barrier - the horse can't hold its breath for that long!!
Anyway, if those who have contributed to this thread still have a punt, I guess that is more damning of us than those who are suspected of pulling swifties.
