Eddie was luckier than we think, in Chopper Read's book he recalls how they watched him win $50,000 on a horse in 1973 and it was Chopper who stopped Dave and Vincent from killing him.
Not sure how much is fact, but the underworld certainly used to "spot" winners.
About a decade ago, I had the priviledge to meet Nappy Ollington the two up king of Melbourne. He recalled a lot of memories and incidents which I can't repeat. He was also lucky to live. He was one of the nicest blokes from the old days I've ever met.
