I didn’t do all that well in the early days – strike rate was OK but profit overall not that flash.

Introduced some basic rules and return on investment (ROI) has improved dramatically and likewise overall profit.

1. Odds-on favourite in race, forget it.
2. If you believe the top 4 in betting are all genuine chances, regardless of your personal choice or choices, forget it.

These rules will eliminate many poor value flexis (and potential loss, even if you get the tri up!).

3. If you can’t identify at least ¼ of the field as non-chances for the place (to leave out altogether), forget it. This last point is very interesting. Judging a horse’s place potential can be very different to judging their win potential. Different slant. Many good dividends due to high priced placegetters who I thought could run a place (at a push) but had really no hope of winning (IMO).

This rule improves ROI.
