I'm always thinking I'll get round to backing up externally, as do a lot of others. You can make a backup to your second hard drive on your PC, but what if it was stolen in burglary. In the business we are in, it would be a complete disaster to be left with nothing. Especially old programs, databases, scripts, spreadsheets etc.
Back up to your PC and then back up to an external drive that is kept elsewhere.
I learnt my lesson the hard way a few years ago!

Use the 3-2-1 principal of backing up, 3 copies,2 local on different mediums or places, 1 external copy off site.
