Races that run true to form are the best guide. As in finals or semi-finals in terms of greyhounds or G3 G2 G1 in horses or the big events in harness.
In terms of a maiden race, all you know is the breed and the trainer. There is no form to go by, and sometimes a few trials. Obviously a favourite in a maiden isn't a *real* favourite. You would call Allingi a *real* favourite as its the best horse that runs true to form. YOu cant say that based on its breeding this horse will win, it just doesn't work that way. There is no consistancy in who wins maidens, but there is in the bigger races-Form runners.
