CHARDERE will have to set a weight-carrying record if the gelding is to become the first horse to win the $60,000 Oasis Devonport Cup (1800m) three times.
The Darrel Baldock-trained gelding has been handicapped to carry 58.5kg, which is two kilograms more than he carried to victory in the race last season.
Last season’s Tasmanian horse-of-the-year Riley Redwing has been given 58kg and Golden Mile winner Surge Of Power 56kg.
Former Devonport Cup winner Dream Quest has been well served by handicapper with 55.5kg. Given Dream Quest’s record in the state’s listed and Group races the past two seasons the gelding has been thrown in at the weights.
