Then if your horse runs a place, you hope that a roughie lobs into one or both of the other placings. You could use it on any race, but I think fields of 8-10 are best because there's not too much expense (especially if you only use a 50c unit). And you can also do this with 2 horses as bankers. I was VERY keen on the Canterbury meeting today, so I decided to play around with it there. I picked out 5 races where I thought there were two very strong place chances. This is how I went today:

R2-1 Klarissa (Out: $3.50 In: $7.10)
R2-5 Miss Celia (Out: $3.50 In: $5.35)

R4-1 Canny Princess (Out: $4 In: $18.25)
R4-2 Nice Surprise (Out: $4 In: $28.50)

R5-1 Restless Wind (Out: $4 In: $8.55)
R5-7 Arunluck (Out: $4 In: $9.55)

R6-1 Afraah (Out: $4.50 In: $22.10)
R6-10 Long Stem Red (Out: $4.50 In: $0)

R7-4 Canny Louis (Out: $4.50 In: $0)
R7-8 Genghis Khan (Out: $4.50 In: $13.35)

Out: $41 In: $112.75

Now, remember to win these banker any2s you just have to pick a placegetter, so it's basically the same as having a place bet except you can possibly end up with a larger dividend. As a comparison, if you had simply bet $4 for a place on all of those 10 runners you would have got these results:

Out: $40 In: $49.60

So, why not try it out on paper for a while. Remember, try to stick to smallish fields where you are very confident of being able to pick a placegetter.

Firstly well done Sportz
I had a play around with your idea and wondered how you would have gone
using your two selections in a rover trifecta and came up with for a full unit the following
race 2- out $36 In $112.20
race 4- out $42 In $556.90
race 5- out $42 In $156.20
race 6- out $48 In $0
race 7- out $48 In $0
Total out $216 In $825.30

There is substantially more risk outlay etc in the tri's obviously
cheers
