I routinely get blasted at the races on whiskey, rum or whatever spirit moves me that particular day. 15-20 drinks is common. My handicapping is usually done ahead of time, but I do some while drinking or even while drunk.
Fortunately, I am a well-disciplined, experienced bettor even even when wasted. (and with my handicapping, it often doesn't matter anyway) When betting on Australian racing, I am safe at home on one of my computers, and safe to drink my fill, it is nighttime, and there's no fear of the police ruining my time. I enjoy that very much.
My problem at the live races is (sorry ladies) taking a woman with me, especially one new to horseracing and used to getting my attention. A greater distraction I have never been around. In fact, at least American women, and any kind of gambling do not mix well. There are some exceptions, as I have known a few women who were avid gamblers/handicappers.
I am having a few rum and Coke study aides for tonight's (todays) racing as I type these very words.
Regards,
Glenn
